Im in the market for my second bike, want to move to 29ers. And struggling to choose. Any advice?

Ive narrowed it down to Scott Scale 940 and Specialised Carve Pro,

The Scott has better components, but people rave about the Specialized frames.

Would be cool to get some advice from anyone who knows these bikes.

And I'm open to other suggestions to (budget is R15000 - R20000)

You might be able to pick up a second hand Cannondale Carbon F29 3 for around that R20k mark.....that would be my suggestion.

What size are you after ?

Im between a medium and a small. Depends on the frame- most brands I tend to be a medium

Thanks for the suggestion. Im quite wary of secondhand though and would prefer to go with a new bike.

Sorry read your first post very quickly, read second hand.

Have a look at the GT Zaskar Carbon 9R Expert, really well spec'ed bike. Retails for around the R21k, but reckon you could shop around and get it within your budget.

You will not find one. I wanted one but no stock in SA. Spoke to Omnico (agent) they also did not have stock

I ride a Scale 940, my Wife a Scale 910 Carbon. There's about a 1kg "real-world" difference in weight, and honestly, I have no complaints with the 940. Very similar ride quality to the Carbon 910. Wheels on the 940 aren't great - I've actually just upgraded to Ritchey Wheels, but that was really not necessary - I just like lighter wheels! Components on the 940 vs. the 910 are very similar - even the no-name Shimano brakes on the 940 work just as well as the XT's on the 910. it really is a very good bike, and you can pick them up at Hotspot in Pretoria now for R13999 - now that's a good deal.

OP go ride the bikes and then buy one. That is the only way you will know what you want

will def do that. have already tried out the specialised carve pro, and liked the feel of it. but its quite tough making a decision based on a quick ride around a parking lot! so I thought I'd try see what other people have to say about the 2 bikes and any others out there.
