Hi,

Just want to know if there are definite benefits to getting a proper bike fit?

I'm thinking of doing it for my road bike.

Is it worth the money or can you get by doing research on angles and so forth...

I would say stop thinking about it and just go for it ;)

Not only will a bike fit ensure that you are more comfortable on the bike, but more importantly it could prevent future injuries and in many cases should give you better efficiency/performance on the bike.

I'm not sure of bike fitments in the Cape but I would think there are some available.

you get people who can just get on a bike and ride

and others that can't

the fact you wondering about it means you must have one done

and yes its worthwhile (my personal experience)

+1.

Proper bike fit means better comfort (Just think saddle area and its already worth it!)

Optimized power output.

List is endless.

For me its like a helmet. It is just a necessary part of the process.

Check out Dinamic Coaching for Retul fit (they are in Cape Town)

I went to Bike Basement in Joburg on Friday for Retul fitting. What a useful and necessary exercise to every cyclist. I am fairly new in the sport, but I cant see going without it. I was experiencing pain especially my lower back, but after the tweaks and new settings to my bike, its a dream.

I did the Nissan Trailseeker #4 half marathon over the weekend and no pain [during or after]. The new setup works perfectly and I even improved my 'climbing' abilities and power output.

Worth every penny!

There are so many websites these days, that tell you the measurements of what you should be looking for.

You cannot get simple maths wrong, and with added sketches.

Just like cars are made for what is called the "85% MAN" dimensions

If you think your body fits this description, then all you need is inseam height to choose your bike.

If not, go make some bikeshop happy :whistling:

Yeah there is no reason why the best cyclists should get Retul fitment.

I imagine that the 5 minutes on the internet with some generic measurements work much better... o_O

You wont understand the benefit of a proper fit until you have it done, I have been riding for close on 15 years, MTB, road & TT. I though I was pretty well dialled in. Went for a TT fitment and felt so much better on the bike, more comfortable feel faster, more aero. I am now going to get my MTB and Road bike fitted. Bang for buck, probably the best investment that you can make in your equipment. Just make sure the person you go to knows what they are doing.

Yes, very essential.

I use to have back pain on long rides. Also, my right foot would go numb during hard efforts.

I went for a bike fit - they made a couple of small adjustments to the bike itself. i.e. seat height, stem height, etc. - but, more importantly added wedges between the cleats and my shoes.

Now I have zero problems!

Wow - ok so I went for a proper fit yesterday with Freewheel Cycology. After about an hour session, my saddle needed to be moved backwards, I need to buy a new longer thicker seat post because of my height which has been ordered from the US apparently. My fork neck is too short, thus requiring a riser stem which is all wrong apparently, and bottom line.. my bike is actually a size too small.

I need a 23inch and my scott is only a 21.5inch (the biggest size they make).. so this makes me very sad.

But getting the fit done has highlighted some areas that will cause my PFPS issues, so definitely worth while! Helped convince the wife that I need an upgrade as well, yes please!
