Looking at building or buying a cyclocross / monstercross bike.

I have both a 26 mtb frame and a road frame with some 36 spoke wheels lying around could i use these? i also have some 8spd road / mtb bits incl shifters i could use.

How does the geometry of a cyclocross bike differ ? are cyclocross rims different to road rims?

2nd hand 29er and add drop bars? or maybe a just an alu road bike with 700 x 35 / 40c tyres? it would need mechanical discs or cantis right? any advice would be appreciated.

Biggest problems are not really geo, related.

Fork, need disk compatible.

Hubs, disc compatible/ Rims brake compatible.

Frame, carrying a rear disk, and if you use an MTB the Top tube length will make riding in drops interesting, or drop a frame size.

For me, a rigid MTB frame with drop bars is your best bet, running a road crank set maybe a problem due to the wider Q factor and tyre allowance.

Rims, old road tubs, best bet. laced to some tough spokes and mtb hubs.

just my 2c.

Looks nice

What price you looking at?

Had it on theHub at R12k (ad has expired, so its disappeared..!) but I'm open to offers. Here's some pics of it;

I have a Stan's kit specifically for this bike which I'll throw in.

Nice bike, but how are you going to handle the single track with this bike setup?

No singletrack on K2C, but its not bad on singletrack as long as it is not to rocky

I wish we had cyclocross as an official discipline here. Would be lots of fun!

Hairy - nice pic (and vid) there! :thumbup:

You do....contact Hunter Cycling in JHB (Grant Usher) - they have semi-regular races... Edited by Chro Mo
