thanks. going to Mountain Mail order later in the week, might opt for the Free Rider instead. recon it's lighter and not too grippy.

you have no issues then? i reckon the Impact will be overkill for my riding, mostly single tracks

They have the same sole material, so no - no difference in grip between the 2. And I ride "mostly single track"

IMO the only thing deciing which one you should go for is personal preference and fit. No other difference between the 2 other than weight. And that's a function of the form, which is again down to personal preference.

there's also a R400 difference!

To quote myself (because I don't feel like repeating all...

Here's my input on

I have a derivative of each of the other 3 and this is what I can say.

Impacts (incl. Sam Hills and Karvers): Grip well. Last Long. Bulky

Freeriders (incl. Danny MaCaskills and Red Barrons): Grip well. Sole allows for a little more feel than impacts. Not the longest lasting, but comfy great shoes.

VXi's: Grip well when weight is on the pedals (take some getting used to if one has had other FiveTens). Comfy fit. Sole seems to be holding up well.

But again, one can't really go wrong with any. I loved the Barons so much that I bought 2 pairs. I'm tempted to get a 2nd pair of VXi's (the non Elements though, due to better ventilation. The Elements are VERY nice for wet weather riding, but don't think they're available locally.

But I'm probably going to hold out for the Impact VXi's (think they're being released in March)

Here they are in Sam Hill Nuke Proof colours

Hi Guys

Ditched my Cleated shoes and tried a stint at Tokai on flats and I'm sold !

I am looking to get a pair of 5-10's Can't get hold of Diald Bikes - no one answering the phone? Will try and email them as well.

I see that Mountain Mail Order also stock them.

Which shoe do you guys suggest. I prefer something in plain black - looking at the Impact Low. do yu guys recommend it? I'm no downhill master, but just want a decent shoe to pair with my flat pedals - most of my riding will be in Tokai if that helps.

Pricing is R1625 at both stores.

Mountain Mail Order / City Rock are the importers and distributors of 5.10's, so if they don't have what you're looking for then you won't find them anywhere else locally.

Hi,

I bought the impact lows from Mountain mail order. Amazing shoes, great quality. Look like they will last for years.

The great is great although over rutted bumps your feet do shift but with normal shoes you wouldve been off already.

I do find them a bit warm though, had to ditch my mohair socks for thinner, lighter cotton socks but thats the only complaint I have. Super comfortable off the bike too.

Ask for discount when buying..........

I got my first pair of 5.10's late last year, The Freeride VXi's. Had another good look at the souls last night and it seems as if one of my pedal pins are going to wear right through the soul any day now! Feels like 3-5mm of soul left in that particular spot
