iBert or weeride?

Hi all

I've been reading an old thread about bike seats for kids but can't reply to it as it's old!

I'm trying to decide between a weeride and a iBert for attaching to my Giant Anthem 26er (XL).

I tried a weeride but am concerned it affects my riding style too much as I had to bend me knees right out.

Has anyone tried a iBert? The only place that stocks them in Cape Town is city cycles in Canal walk and they were completely unhelpful when I asked about a demo/checking to see if it fitted my bike before I bought

Thanks for any suggestions

Simon

I have a weeride and my 19 month old son loves it. I agree with you about the riding style. You do have to force your legs outward.

Will you not have the same issue with the iBert?

I have the weeride and I find that it takes some adjustment fore and aft as well as the height of the bar in relation to the seatpost to get comfortable. Once adjusted, its really great. My 16 month old son loves it. Just a note though, you might have to raise your stem slightly so as not to knock your chin on your child's head

I have a Weeride. You do have to pedal with your knees slightly outwards, but you aren't doing a 40km training ride.... you are riding with your kid!

Also be aware that when you stop, you can't slip off the front of your seat to put your foot down. Not a problem for me as I run a dropper on my trail bike but something to remember as you will have a child attached to your bike....

I am happy with my Weeride though. More back support for the little guy and when he gets tired, he can rest his head on the pad in front of him. Weeride just seemed like a better option.

Thanks all for your replies...wow I'll check out that thread Ryanpmb...looks great!

Squier - as I understand it the iBert is a little further forward as it attaches to the stem, but I'm not sure if I've currently got enough stem for it.

Yup I know I'm riding with my kid but it's on a MTB that I've got fitted for me so I'm loath to have to change the stem etc each time I want to ride with him....maybe that's an excuse to try and justify another bike!!!!

Thanks all, much appreciated!

I'm in the same boat deciding what to get for my daughter. Let me know what you get.

What about a rear seat or trailer? I have my opinions on these - interested to hear others...

Haven't tried back or front seat but recommend a trailer to anyone. I had a Croozer 535 which I recently sold to another Hubber. Used it for 3 yrs with my twin girls from about 9 months. Great on road and can do good gravel with softer tyres

I also went for the wee ride. Used to have the Giant one that goes behind the seat and my kid hated it. He loves the serried and I can easily do between 2-2,5 hours with him comfortably

To be honest after trying the weeride I've pretty much decided to go with a front mounted one...the interaction with him was incredible....he loved every minute of it! I can't imagine having the same reaction in a trailer. It's not like I'm going to be racing down single track or even cycling on the road so I'm not too concerned with trailer vs seat safety.

Am going to try and demo an iBert and will feedback here. The ideal one looks like a bobike mini city which is genius but hard (and expensive) to get to SA and looks like it needs at least two spacers in the stem to be replaced with the mounting
