It normally opens much closer to the event. If I remember correctly, it opens in December or thereabouts. But once it opens, don't wait around because some of the distances fill up quickly.

Just tracked it down by doing a search here on the Hub - It opened 1 November last year and most likely will again this year.

Thanks DJR

@Surv0MTB i did read something about one of the sections being ridden in reverse to alleviate some bottleneck. Not entirely sure as this will be my first time riding it

Realised what the problem is with the Argus MTB is when I did the Burger MTB a month ago. Unlike the Burger which goes over something like 40(?) farms which makes for a very scenic route, the whole of the Argus mtb route is on 2 or 3 farms - result being a whole lot of zig-zagging around the same few dams and vineyards, not terrible but also not particularly inspiring. Such a pity because the Franschoek valley is such a beautiful place to mtb, why not use more of the valley?

Its a kuk race im done with the Argie MTb after 5 years of zigging ill rather just hit the trails on that day.

This surely must rate as one of the most boring races in the cape! Zig zagging through the same vineyards and dams for 50 odd km's not for me. Die Burger is in a different class!

I've done a lot of them, over all the distances (with and without my family), but I gave up too. It got a bit too big, too dusty and too hot for me. I think the Saturday (shorter rides) are more fun with families and kids all over. The Sunday (longer rides) are good if you like the racing or you want to challenge yourself. But it is probably not the greatest ride if you like single track or technical riding. Definitely not if you like solitude. The numbers are simply too big for that to be a possibility. Don't listen only to all the negative comments. If you've never done it before, go and try it out. Just be open minded. Many people like it (you might be one of them) that's why the field is so large and why the are always sold out.

I agree completely with this.

I did my first Burger Mtb challenge this year and thoroughly enjoyed the 42km route, whats the chances i'm going to be disappointed if that's the crowd size, technicality (steped up a bit would be better though) and vibe I enjoy?

Similar vibe & size to Burger, and similar in technicality ie not really (except maybe the 75km route) - so you'll probably enjoy it, you have to try it at least once so that you can also slag it with authority like the hubbers above ;)

My perception is that a lot of roadies also do this race (which might explain why they don't want to do any other mtb races  )
