The day a medal means something is when I might keep one or bother collecting one. They do not have a date, are made of shite or look like some stoopid corporate gilft. The only medal I have kept is my Comrades bronze ...

They are made from brushed stainless steel and come equipped with all the necessary screws, wall plugs and spacers (to hold it away from the wall so you can slide the ribbons of the medals on to them).

I go along with your sentiments............I do not believe that every single rider in every race should get a medal. Those who have achieved by maybe being top 3 or top 10 in their class or the race etc, but not every single rider. I personally do not believe i deserve a medal unless you win or podium in your category etc. A medal for a great race, like Epic or comrades i think is different, as finishing either is a helluva achievement.

Finishing Argus or 94.7 or the average 50km MTB race is IMHO not worthy of a medal.

Thats a crazy statement. If you are overweight or unfit and trying to change your life, doing a 50km race might be tougher for them than a Epic is for you. That Argus medal or whatever race medal might mean the world to them, and something to be proud of. Dont generalize, if you dont like medals then good for you. the other 95 percent of us enjoy them for whichever reason.

I give mine to my two year old...she collects them in her little barbie jewelry box....daddy is her hero

Ditto. My 4yr old loves playing with them.

I have over flowing shoe boxes with them and rarely take one, sometimes its hard to say no to a cute little kid when they enthusiastically offer them to me. Take one, don't take one its your choice.

sometimes I wear mine to work

Ha ha ha ...you beat me to it!! I was going to add that i can wear a different medal for every day of the month!!

I hang mine on the tusks of a warthog skull in my study, together with a huge bunch collected over many years. I make no distinction between special ones or common ones. I have thought of throwing the lot away, but refrained this far. Perhaps one day when I'm old and the memory starts to fail, rubbing one between my fingers will bring back pleasant memories of a race I did.
