Iwan Kemp Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Yes! Ran into many fellow mtb'ers on our road trip, many of them Momsen fans and owners, and got quite a few bewildered stairs when they notice my flats! And 50mm stem. O, and 725mm bars for that matter! Flats just make it easier when I roam around. Easy to get off and walk about when I see something interesting. Also, flats rock! (But they will make way for cleats once I'm back in town)

Iwan Kemp Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 I'm getting a VIPA frame soon, and can't decide what to do about the shock. It comes with a fox CTD without remote lockout, but I really think I need remote lockout because I often forget to unlock the shock until it's too late. I have been thinking about swopping out the Fox for a XX shock with hydraulic lockout. Just wondering how it will affect the ride because the Momsen website says the Fox shock that comes with the bike is "tuned" for the frame. Any experts out there have any advice? After a week and a half on mine I'd say you'd be okay without lockout 99% of the time. Bike just gets up and goes even with the shock full open. So unless you ride tar a lot or spend a lot of time out of the saddle stomping away at the pedals you'll be alright. If however you do change: phone Momsen and ask for the tune and shock specs. Then speak to Ian at Cape Cycles Systems for the best advice on what std tune Monarch will be closest, then get your LBS to order that. If you have a RS fork you can get the new dual lock out lever that will lock both your fork and shock at the same time at the push of one convenient button. Loving the Monarch on mine.
