Writing Good Classifieds

To help Hubbers who find it difficult to properly list items they want to sell in the classifieds section, here is a generally good form to use.

At the very least, mention:

  1. Product name
  2. Product description
  3. Mileage
  4. Age
  5. Reason for selling
  6. Any known defect
  7. Degree of wear
  8. Size (if applicable)
  9. Shipping price (incl, excl, estimate)
  10. Shipping terms & timeframe
  11. More than one photo of the product
  12. Link to manufacturer's website for details
  13. Your contact details and how you will give preference to interested buyers

Then some other general guidelines

  • Photos must be of your actual product, that you took, not the manufacturer's photos
  • If anything is different than what is indicated on photo's, mention it
  • Give it a good title. Put size and year in the title too
  • Just because you think your bike is "like new" because you "only done 500km" doesn't mean you should as a "like new" price for it too.

Be honest, ask a good price and you will sell your products

Is there something else we need to add to this list?

Timeframe meaning when will it be posted, not how long shipping may take. People complained about not having a tracking number within two days of payment

Well when it will be posted is common sense, when money clears/in my hands.

That nervous feeling between making payment and waiting for tracking number.... thankfully haven't been scammed by a hubber to-date.

An interbank transfer can take a few working days to show in the recipients account. If I sell something, I need to see the money in my account before I make arrangements to send it.

If a courier collects, then there is no real excuse why the buyer shouldn't get a tracking number within a day or two of the money clearing. If I work a 7-5 job, getting to a post office during the week can be a problem.

If this is communicated up front, it shouldn't be a problem. If you as a seller maintain radio silence however..... Not cool.

Communication is key. Advertise it properly and you will get a buyer. Once an agreement has been reached, an sms/email goes a long way to keeping the waters calm.

His ad's are always poor.

Looks like all he has done is copy and paste the contact info into all the adds .... Lazy, Lazy, Lazy!

And he is supposedly a LBS based on his contact info ...... wonder what the attention to detail is like when your bike gets serviced?

You must see some of the responses he gives when you do query items...
