Hi,

Looking at doing a tubeless conversion on my 26" rims. At the same time am looking at changing from shrader to presta valves. Does anyone know where I could get the adapters/grommets for this in the Durban area. Are 20" tubes with presta valves easily available or would or be better to get valves and use the gorilla tape method?

Thanks

You get tubeless presta valves that have a big base to cover the big hole in the shrader type rims. I suggest you use Gorilla tape and tubeless presta valves.

I had tubeless with shrader, not a single problem.

Benefit, when you need to "bomb" them, you can just go to the garage and use their pumps, instead of getting an adapter or using expensive bomb

I say, stick with schrader

^^ I agree if your rims are already Shrader stick with that.

I prefer shrader actually but apparently they use presta on most rims because the big hole that Shrader needs weakens the rim

Might be that "big hole" weakens rim, but I have seen more damaged Presta valves from rocks and sticks than damaged rims at the Schrader valve point. A damaged Presta valve and your ride is semi over. Schrader valves are just more robust. The valve core of a Schrader is also more resilient. Easy screw out, wash an clean, screw back and inflate. Also no problems with extra adapters to fit onto Presta valves.
