I must say 2 months sounds insane...any chance that this bike came into contact with sea water like riding on the beach @ sani, joberg2c or imana? Also was it ever washed with a high pressure thingamabob? Those are deadly for bearings of any kind

How long have you had the bike, guaranteed it's more than two months.

You ride an S-Works, but want to put R 10 bearings in the bike ?

Warrantee on bearings ?

Good luck with that, wear and tear on moving parts that are made by the manufacturer, bearings don't fall under this.

Cable needed to be replaced, I have seen guys put new cables on a bike a week before the Epic only to replace them again during the Epic.

Your bike uses a pressfit BB, they just don't last, plain and simple.

Wash the bike with aggressive cleaning solutions and expect stuff like bearings and BB's to seize super quick.

Lastly, how do you know the bearings need replacement ?

Perhaps the bottom 2 on the chainstay where it meets the frame, I have seen these go super quick, and often it's just a case of "you got the Friday lunchtime bearings"

Honestly can't see how the pivot bearings would get worn out that quickly without getting contamination in them, as mentioned salt water or over zealous cleaning with high pressure cleaner or hose pipe. Any way I'd try a warranty claim as the first stop, see what they say, as a sign of goodwill they may just replace them at no charge whatever the reason is they prematurely wore out.

Have to agree here....don't think you will be able to claim warrantee wrt bearings, they are moving parts that multiple external elements can destroy(1 wash with a powerfull degreaser or pressure hose is enough to kill the best bearings). And yes wrt to the pressfit BB, just nurse them and try to keep them clean and greased regularly.

Sure, but how did it break off, surely there was a fall or knock leading up to it....XTR is light, light means its not made for strength. I have seen derailleurs sheering off the hanger into cassettes....it is mtb'ing afterall and wear and tear is part of the game

dis sommer bol......

SW for sale

No man wait wait....

Think of it this way...you are riding the pinacle of engineering and performance as far as mtb'ing is concerned...state of the art materials and techniques are used and cost isn't a factor when deciding on this bike, performance is. Its light, stiff, beautifull...embrace it...you have laid out the cash...and I am totally honest here, I am very envious of it...I really wish I had one. Maintenance is part and parcel of mtb'ing, on a sworks epic, it is a bit more, but so is a service for a veyron when compared to a vw golf. You are not going to get even close what you paid for it if you had to sell it, it will be such a waste.

Think of it this way....If bikes were cars(flamesuit on)

Sworks Epic...Bugatti Veyron

Giant XTC...VW Golf GTI

Rigid singlespeed...datsun champ

Yip it is an SW and anything you replace on it is going to cost you a little more. XTR cassette is 3 time the price of XT and does not last as long IMO. That is the "price" you pay for the best. I have a 2012 SW and yes I also seem to be heavy on the BB bearings but no problems at all with the pivots or any other part. After 6000+km, Atta, Epic she has also had a hard life. I no regelarly service the BB bearing myself and they last a lot longer. Awesome bike, worth the little bit extra in maintenance cost.

Here is a quick question - who has ever checked their suspension bearings when they are brand new to see if they actually are packed full of grease?

I stripped mine when my bike was out the box new - not a sign of grease in the pivot bearings - not a scrap - but they were lightly lubed with oil.. just like you get them from skf... and that does not work well for a pivot bearing.

Just saying it is worth checking.. ymmv...

Had a similar experience , checked the factory grease in my Hope Pro II bearings and they were also just barely greased, similar grease amount to new Bearing Man bearings.

I agree with you there. The one mechanic at the concept store described an S-Works as a formula one car. All the components are performance designed and they have such small tolerances as a result of them being such light weight parts. And it is for this very reason why an S-Works needs that little extra TLC compared to your average mtb in order to keep it ticking (could also be sales talk to justify all the maintenance. ;))

Granted that 2 months is crazy.
