Hi there DFM1

I think you meant something standard and common like a Trek or Cervelo.

Those bikes are like spotting sweets in a candy store they are everywhere. Not that they are bad, just everywhere.

Cannondales are awesome bikes, I've just switched over to a systemsix - Brilliant. This is from riding Italian bikes all my life...if you go American / Canadian go Cannondale it's worth it.

"No spares will be sold to dealers without authentic serial no's."

Does that mean a local shop cannot carry spares?

You have to go in with your wheel' date=' give your serial no. to the lbs, they will then order accordingly from Mavic??  Long time to get spokes????
[/quote']

Does this explain the extremely crappy service I have been getting from Mavic? All I want are two Ksyrium SL spokes, and I have been waiting for 3 weeks.

Instead of spending loads of money on crappy ads in bike mags, rather spend the money on keeping your customers happy. I will not buy another set of Mavic wheels!

Here we go again. The same old story.

I had no problems with  my Mavic wheels that I bought last year from Chris Willemse Cycles. They gave me the wheels at a stunning price and told me that the warrenty is the same as the local importer.

I bought a polar from them some time ago and had some problems. I took it back to them and what happened. I got supplied with a brand new one.

Mavic agents , drop your price and you will sell more wheels. Does Mavic in France complain if Total cycling or any other online shop sell their products.

No. Only the fat cats in South Africa.

I buy from where ever I can at a god price and where I get good service.

A fair warning from the Mavic importers I would say. People are obsessed with the idea that they're being ripped off by unscrupulous distributors, importers, get-rich-quick retail shops, and everything in between.

The shops who've been in business for years and survived are not thieves. They are passionate about what they do. They have to make a profit to survive and 99% of them do not give any indication that they're getting rich quick.

Just because some get-rich-quick artists have found ways to buy questionable products which have been dumped or rejected or stolen or sold in job lots at overseas auctions, is no reason to assume you're dealing with hoods at your LBS. Are these guys hoods out to steal your money?

Tony Impey, Bruce Reyneke, Willie Engelbrecht, Cycle Lab, Olympic Cycles, Bridge Cycles, Cycle Centre Durban, Alpha Beta Cycles, Coimbra Cycles, Cyclopro, Willie Marx, Cycle HQ, Pro Cycles, Cyclopro, Morningside Cycles, West Rand Cycles, Westdene Cycles, The Cycle Hub, Dave Wiseman Cycles, Road Cycles, Pro T Cycles, Knysna cycle Works, The Bike Shpo Plett, Crown Cycles, Cycle Tech, Linden Cycles, Cycle World, Trimid Cycles, etc etc etc etc. This list could go on for a long time.

No, they are not thieves and profiteers. They are dedicated professionals who will look after your best interests because if they don't they will not survive.

Be very suspicious of those who imply that because they can pull moves, know shady suppliers overseas, and can land stuff super cheap, that they are the saviours of the cycle trade in South Africa and will rescue you from the dealers mentioned above.

Korbach, (and this is not a fight)

I've got Mavic Ksyruims SSL's, I got the mtb version Crossmax

I got one pair of SL's from my father in law who baught it in Londen, the crossmax I baught from someone who did a international tour overseas and when he came back, he sold the set to me.

My question is : Is the Mavic wheels I got "legal" MAVIC wheels,

or do you think some of that was made in Taiwan with mavic stickers on it?

Because for me... A mavic is a Mavic. Or am I stupid again?popeye2008-02-20 01:35:27

The above post is exactly why I will NOT buy Mavic wheels from anyone.  I will get chainreaction cycles to build me a nice set of wheels (mtb set next for me!) with standard DT Swiss spokes, XTR hub which ANY bike shop can repair for me.  Heck, I might even be a ble to do it myself!!!!

I just can't stomach having to wait for spares like Velouria and straatvark have painfully experienced.  I need to get my bike fixed quickly, not wait for special parts to be delivered by my special againt for my uber-special wheels.  Get wheels with generic components that are readily avaialable and avoid the manufacturer tie in.

Then you can ignore "Dealer Warnings" and sleep like a baby

don't know if its just me' date=' but I can't remember when I had to return a part to the LBS cos it was faulty - bike parts usually work until you wear them out or break them.

plus all these places like CWC say they will warranty the stuff themselves, ie fix/replae/repair it as if they are the distributor.

Good point.  It all seems to be scare tactics.  As long as the LBS has spares of course...

Ok, my next follow up question:

1)Does this means that the shops above will only help you if you have valid SA Invoice made out in your name (with a wheelset serial number linked to the invoice)

2) Does that mean that if you buy a "legal" set from someone else (second hand now)... the shops above will not honner the warrenty?

3) Does this means that it will be stupid from a cyclist to buy ANY MAVIC wheels, because the secondhand market will be a risk as no one will be interested in buying a second hand set of wheels, because of the "first owner" detail and invoice linked to a wheelset with a serial number)

Yes, If thats the case, I will recommend the cyclist look pass the mavic wheelsets, and buy something else..

and did I told you that I phone Dragons yesterday asking which shop can supply my with a mavic crossmax tubeless valve kitset?

They dont have in stock and no shop will have it.

So, do I make my own or do I import?

so, please Mavic Importer/Supplier, if you are hard arse with the customer, make sure you can supply the "LEGAL" product when the costomer asked for it.
