Check this thread out before you listen to all the tall boys ;)

Crow is seriously finicky about what he rides and he tests and reviews just about anything with 2 wheels and pedals. He is one of the few guys here on the Hub that doesn't just compare the 1 or 2 bikes he owns, but have a very wide experience with mountain bikes. (Crow hasn't discovered yet that there is actually a bike that can ride on the tar. O, before I forget, his only bias is for any Ibis bike :D )

Yep, what he said.

I test rode a celebritys vipa for next years epic in the parking area. Didn't like the bob. But maybe its because the shock set up was not done for me

It's amazing how SC has gained appeal amongst less hardcore riders in the last few years, all thanks to the Tallboy.

5 or 6 years ago none of the less technically skilled marathon, stage racer, dirt roadie, weekend warrior types would have even known about Mr Rosskop's bikes.

Ouch! The MORE skilled of course can ride anything anyway (so hardly counts) and most ride whatever they get sponsored. I think you should rather ask how many buy the model again. Not all consumers are stupid or mediocre. Those of us that are the really pathetic cyclists that you refer to, just like to get as much help as possible - also known as a good bike!

I think MH is referring to gravity riders, SC has always been more focused on longer travel and burlier bikes (apart for the superlight)........

A bit like what the Zula did for Morewood in South Africa........

Don't want to hijack the thread. How many guys are riding VIPA's? From reading through the different forums the bike seems to be highly rated and very popular.

Both good options and which ever way you go you will not get a bad bike. As much loved and used as the VPP is, I feel it's better suited to longer travel bikes and the type of riding that goes with it. SC's shorter travel bikes have never set the pedalling platform stage alight. Even the 127mm TRc has bit of a love/hate feel in terms of pedalling. But over that and 1. The VPP makes more sense and 2. there is in any case less focus on how good a bike climbs.

Vipa has been branded pure race based on the fact that it has 80mm rear travel. I think one should at least ride a bike and give it some stick before you label it. I started out with a std post and a 100mm fork. There's a dropper and 120mm fork on there at the moment! Can handle a lot more trail than people would give it's 80mm credit for.

I am running my Vipa with close on 30% sag for a bike and discipline that's meant to run 20-25% and there is ZERO bob. This is why I say a parking lot test means zip and even more so when the bike's not been set up for your weight. I have only twice locked the shock out and that was only to get a feel for the bikes when locked out and also for the shock. Other than that I'm in full open 80% of the time. And even that percentage seems a bit low, but that's because I've been doing a lot of flatter rides with some mates on it.

You will have to look long and hard and far to find a bike with little to no bob when running 30% sag and a longer than intended travel fork.

still curious how the reaction would have been to the Vipa has it come out of the Morewood stable and branded so (when Pat was still there) or the Pyga label for that matter......something tells me that simply because Momsen sells entry level bikes (like every other big player like Giant, Specialized etc) they cant do a high end machine......

Don't forgets Morewood's involvement in the VIPA, is says a lot......

Depends what you want to do. Maybe start a separate thread where BigH can comment on the pros and pros of Toyota.

For the purpose of the OP maybe ask "should I buy VW Golf or Audi A3".
