Ja that used to be more the case but in recent times most insurers cover anything under household cover when it's at home excluding things that must be specified like jewelry watches etc. Most of them used to force you to specify anything like bikes and cellphones etc to have any cover on them whatsoever even if stolen from your house , not any more - now only needed for out and about and all risks. But then again it all depends on your particular insurance co.

Ok so its been 2 years with nothing heard from Outsurance - so I take it that it was just bullying tactics.

Had the same thing, I was T boned earlier this year, get a call from some debt collector on outsurance behalf claiming I hit the other driver, I asked if I was T boned how I did the hitting?

Gave them the number of my insurance lady who is as hard as nails, she gave them a good seeing to and I have heard nothing from them.

Never, ever, ever, deal with Outsurance!!!!

I got rear ended by a customer of theirs. He was a very decent bloke but CLOUTsurance tried to weasel out of it by claiming I braked too hard.

That's generally what happens when trying to avoid the accident in front of you but their driver was following too close.

Pointed this out and they came back with another demand based on reckless braking>

I asked them to define what that is a and never heard from them again.

Hello lady from Outsurance...

I have a policy that covers only my MTB with your company...after this - I think i'm going to just include it with my other household policy which resides with SANTAM. Consider my notice hereby served...

Fear Not Santam Rocks. Not always the cheapest, BUT it works.

And the lesson is - dont use Outsurance - this is typical of the way they conduct their claims. they tried the same on me once in a small altercation....

My old man was in short term insurance - its called bully tactics

Also had a claim like this. Security vehicle shot out of a side road no pulled over to the side of the road and stopped. I managed to just avoid them by swinging hard to the right. Well I thought I had avoided them. Next thing they force me off the road and say I hit there car. Showed me a broken side mirror. Car was also scratched down the side but they said that was from another accident. Not a mark on my bakkie.

Next thing I get a notice from there insurance demanding 25K for damages. I asked for the case number since they must have reported it. They couldn't supply one. They asked me for the accident report and number I said I hadn't reported it because there was no accident.

Next was a letter from the lawyers. I said no problem, as soon as a court tells me to pay I will do so. Never heard another word. That was over two years ago.

I was under the impression that one of the top guys at Outsurance is an accomplished cyclist himself. Doing enduro, Epic etc... They should consult him about this tendency cyclists have to ride into stationary vehicles just for fun.

Oh well, I guess I have to jump to change insurers. Didn't know they were so crap. Will give them notice in January. Will move to Santam, already have another policy with them..

Quite honestly I don't remember. I drive past there vehicles every day and take no notice. Won't see them again until January. Not Brinant though.
