Benoni country club closed 24th and 25th Dec! According to security...

Would have been nice to leave a notice at the gate...

I was looking forward to the ride today. Myself and another were turned away.

I rode BCC red route this morning with a friend who knows it well . He is able warn me of technical sections , bad jumps and drop offs , rocky sections bridges and any other dangers in the way . I found it a course you really cant get going on because of the amount of switchbacks , trees and corners with wrong camber . I had 3 falls on rocky technical sections ( i didnt listen to the advise ) and because the trail was a bit wet and i have a well worn rear tyre so battled for traction and lost momentum . I must say i enjoyed  it but do prefer longer open space  rides more . We did a riding time of 63min for the 18 km at an average of 17kph . I think its a circuit one must do maybe once a month just to keep the skills level up .

FirstV8,

I have done a few rides over the years at BCC and remember when they where still dragging a tyre around and struggling with the long grass...

I don't ride there regular anymore. The last time I was there, I actually thought they tamed the course a bit  I think they have also changed direction of some of the turns which now seems unnatural. I think I was also used to the old track...Once you have done a few more loops, it gets easier. There is nothing I couldn't ride and I'm no trail mountain goat! Got to love the tree drop-off !!!

It is a tight course with lots of twists, so flat out speeds is not easy but makes it interesting when you challenge every corner.

The stop-start is not everyone's cup of tea and perhaps not pure XC training, but it is a good workout if you push it.

For higher speeds and flowing corners, try the Finishline loop and the Ultra fun Big Red Barn.

I have just come past BCC track and last nights storm has caused havoc in that area including blown over a lot of the blue gum trees on the track . I saw a few guys ready to take to the track but doubt they had a good ride . Cliff your track is ruined HAHA .

What is nice about BCC is that you can use it for Interval training. The constant sprint/stops really give you a good workout if you put in proper effort, I do think it is worth it if you are doing 2/3 laps and not just one.

The design of the off-camber turns in my mind are great, most people can ride cambered turns really well. But throw an off-camber at them and panic sets in and you hear the breaks squeal, usually followed by a wash-out.

The trail is not perfect, there is quite a lot of room for improvement, and it has potential to be so much more.

@ Grey Hubs.... BCC is in serious need of maintenance. There were a couple of serious injuries of riders who came undone there in December due to the lack of maintenance of some of the bridges they had built with wattle.

Hi,

We are riding there this afternoon. A little concerned about this statement. Will we see the danger areas, and be able to avoid ?

Any specific areas to be concerned about ?

Also did it about a month ago. The green and yellow trails (novice and intermediate respectively) were very well maintained. Novice was 12km in length IIRC and simple enough that I did it comfortably with my daughter in her carrier on the back and my wife as her first time off-roading.

Maybe doing it again this weekend.
