Good morning

I want to get my 2year old boy one of these for Christmas, but dont feel like the shlep to shop around. Can someone recommend the best, most cost effective place to buy a JD Bug with a bit of bling in the Cape Town area?

I heard from a dude at Olympic cycles that no one is importing them anymore, phone first to check if there is any stock.

Is this the best way to get them riding? I also have a 2 year old, and can't decide between peddles or peddless...

Get him one of these at this age and he will take to a propper bike much quicker than kids half his age when he is ready for the next step - also try him with Strider racing if you are in Gauteng

If you want something a bit different (everyone has the JD bug) have a look at the KTM kids training bike. My son had the plastic version which he loved, but the metal one is even cooler. You can get the matching helmet as well.

They have them at KTM Paarden Eiland.

What I really like is the hand guards. My son rode into walls etc multiple times.

I read up a bit, and it seems the JD works wonders for their balance and sets them up nicely for the next level

Gave my daughter a Strider at 18 months and it's incredible to watch. Without a single bit of assistance they figure out how to push the bike, eventually how to sit and push and then the feet start coming up when they're going down hills and after a couple of months they're balancing completely naturally. At less than 2 my daughter motors down the 50m driveway, her feet only coming down once she needs to hit the brakes.

Speak to Chris at Strider bikes, he normally holds Strider events and races for the kids on weekends. At their age they just learn through osmosis: https://www.facebook...BALANCE?fref=ts

I've the full range of YBikes at home and the kids love them. Local brand (from my hometown) and built to last. I felt the JD Bug was not suitable for my son when he was 2. The YBike has better stability.

My daughter is now 3 and she has been riding that YBike since she was 1. She has only now started to use the YBike Extreme (which is on par with the JD Bug) but still prefers the normal one. My son only started using the Extreme when he was 4.

Also keep in mind those lever brakes on the JD Bug are useless and only there for mothers. Kids hands are not strong enough to use these breaks at such a young age. This is why a lot of brands don't even bother with them.

I'm not dissing JD Bugs, I think they are great, but they are not the only good product out there. But no matter what you buy, your kid is going to love it.

But please do not forget the helmet - worth spending good dosh on a proper one for your child.

Hi Guys we have a full range of Strider and Weebikes at the CL Fourways store.

Did you not read the original post? He's in Cape Town. Unless you can get one of your CT stores to get it from you, or unless they have stock, your suggestion is (somewhat) pointless.
