However you can find pepperspray commonly in shops like Cash Connections in Fish Hoek and similar places, you just have to look around. But pay a visit to Blades and Dad's Toys, lots of fun and interesting things in there as well as some decent advice - very dependent on who you speak to though. To those of you that think pepper spray is a magic silver bullet,It is very far from being this, there is a substantial percentage of the population that is only minimally affected by pepper spray. Pepper spray should only be used as a distracting agent, hopefully giving you time to deploy more effective means of personal defense, or to make "gat skoon". Stay alert. My mae had to sit in police cells for 2hrs in Dec...because he "assaulted" a thief.The **** crawled into his wife's bussiness on his stomach...past reception...to steal from handbag...wife saw him and jumped on him (she's really strong / aggro - i will not mess with her :eek: ) struggle ensue...would be thief get loose and runs down staris onto pavement...right into hubby who was on his way to collect wife...he persues till street intersection...and tackes guys down and rough him up a bit (i.e. citizens arrest). cope were called and thief lays charge against him...now, this is where I loose the plot...BECAUSE a charge doccet has been opened against Frank (my mate) ..the cops wqere unable to release him wadda wadda..etc. Not even his attourney could prevent him fro sitting in general cells for twqo hours...until they persuaded the thief to drop charges... Moral of that story was....do you citizens arrest - do te roughing up...but do not call cops ...just release the guys...he will not go to cop station to lay charges...he simply did it (on the spot) beacuse cops were there to arest him! bloody hell... michael Posted January 8, 2014 Share no one here is right or wrong and its your own preference to use/dont use a firearm or simply insure your bike and live another day. Each instance is very different from the next but what i will say, the conditions out there are not and will not be getting better, and you must be happy with the outcome of your decision.Me - if the opportunity presents itself, i will fight back and if need be, shoot in self defence. Yes i do from time to time also carrry a legal firearm with me and i am prepared to use it. No im not Rambo, just another law abiding cyclist who enjoys his sport and likes to live in peace. steve61 Posted January 8, 2014 Share A gun is pretty useless in a hijacking situation. I rode past two guys, they parted for me to ride between them and simply grabbed me off my bike. I was dragged along a path into the trees where I was strip searched and everything of value was taken.All the time the one with a silver gun was just out of arms reach while the other kept poking me with a knife. I never stood a chance and it happened so fast there was no time to try reach for a gun.... they took my bike but at least they can't shoot people with a bike ... imagine if I'd had a gun?Will you get your gun out every time you ride past someone?
