Werner26 Posted January 9, 2014 Share Hi Guys, Can anyone help me with the weight on Titan bikes? I can seem to find these specs anywhere. 2014 Titan Sport 29er (All large frames)2014 Titan Trail 29er2013/14 Titan Elite 29er I know that they are designed slightly heavier, but cmon, they should still make the info available to the public. Any assistance would be great Thanks

rouxtjie Posted January 9, 2014 Share Why is weight such an issue?+1 Doesn't matter....performance and durability even looks(dead serious...I can't ride something ugly ) are far more important.... Werner26 Posted January 9, 2014 Share I'm a newbie coming into the sport and have seem various manafactures within the same price range vary on weight by up to 1-2kg's. Obviously other factors like the Derailers and Fork will have priority, but for an unfit fat A$$ like myself, weight can make a huge difference in my life, or not so? Thanks
Raab Posted January 9, 2014 Share Why is weight such an issue? Agreed, dont get too caught up in the weight of the bikes

rouxtjie Posted January 9, 2014 Share If you are starting out rather focus on Looks of the bike(do you want to ride it...does it appeal to you)Performace(dont confuse this with weight....this is something like mech disc vs hydraulic disc brakes)Durability(How much hammering can the bike take....something like tyres its kitted out with or tubeless conversion done) Weight should be the very last priority Tumbleweed and Grebel

VicanZA Posted January 9, 2014 Share Came on if you can drop the bikes weight by 2kg it's worth it, more space for beer weight later.

There really isn't that much difference in weight between bikes in the price range you mention. Bikes are never "designed slightly heavier"; that makes no sense. rouxtjie
Werner26 Posted January 9, 2014 Share Thanks for all the input guys. Really appreciate it. I'm really keen on entering the sport, but am kind of torn between whether to spend the extra money and whether i'll notice the difference based on the price. I've looked at the Titan Trail for R7200 or the Scott Aspect 930 for R7500But then think maybe i should spend the little extra and go for the Scott Scale 940 (R11400) or perhaps the Merida Big9 TFS 500 (R11k) I'm nervous that the novelty will wear off and that i'll be stuck with pretty much expensive decorations. Do you guys think i should take the plunge or just start small and upgrade based on how it goesWill i be able to drastically feel a difference in my ride for the price increase Cheers. Do you have a spec list of the bike that you can post here....
awesme Posted January 9, 2014 Share You can get both the Scott Scale 940 and the Merida big9 at Cycle Lab 4Ways Mega store for under R10K. I'd rather spend the extra cash and get one of these 2. good bikes makes a huge difference if you will continue with the sport or not. G Thanks for all the input guys. Really appreciate it.
