First time for me at the Tour Durban. Started in BL and really had a fantastic ride - did 3h20 (better than I had expected with my 106kg load on board!).

What a well planned and well executed event. Definitely one to do next year. 2 thumbs up!

WE must have finished together. Also BL and finished 3:20. I was Spiderman.

Awesome race, brilliant organization, magic scenery. I Will definitely be back next year. I reckon the best thing that the anc has done for the country was to have the race moved to today. Yesterday would have been rough!

Edit: i just HAVE to mention the awesome pair of cycling sunnies in the race pack. Wow!

I reckon with the weather (make that wind) today over yetserday, we were all given a little blessing in disguise.

Yup, that wind yesterday would have blown us all over.

We must have finished together but I can't seem to remember seeing spiderman?!! I had a Ride for Rhino jersey on and I was on an old Raleigh RC3000.

Missed my first AL start ... rode BL also in a 3h20. I think A-bunch would have spat me out very early . An Idiot caused me to go down at the 85 km mark, didnt even bother to stop , left me the A-Hole ...

But all good, 100kgs of pure concrete was tough to drag around (lol).

What a great race that was! Organisation was fantastic!

Didn't see the crash in A bunch since I was with 5 guys up the road. It did get a bit chaotic after the main bunch caught us with some Vets in the mix. But still a great race!

Oh no, you serious?? Damn, that's a shame, sorry man.

Tell me about it, was such a nice day, perfect conditions and the guys in my group all put times in that would have gotten my seeding index nice and low... very bleak.

Will be back next year.

How was that climb though? What can you compare it too on other races?

To me the climb was actually a lot easier than I had expected. What got me was the fact that it is so flat you end up pedalling continuously to maintain a good average speed. I found it tougher than Amashova even though Amashova had more climbing it had more downhills so overall less time spent pedalling.

The climb went very quickly. The front of A batch split about halfway up that first 2.5km section with about 25 riders getting away (I ended up in the second group). Once we were past that first section, the next 10km of the climb went very quickly. I was going up sections at 30 km/h that I might normally go up in training around 20 - 22 km/h. You might be working hard all the way up, but because you're going up so fast, you still benefit a lot from drafting. The main bunch of A batch crested the big hill with an ave. race speed still around 32 km/h. We ended the race with an average of 37.5 km/h.

And from Pinetown onwards it just got quicker. It's a very fast course, with a tendency for big bunches to form and difficult for lone riders to get away.

TBH I didn't experience the same as jimmycool. I found Amashova's profile more challenging and the ToD to be a lot faster.
