Inflating presta tubeless tyres with the valve core removed - how?

Recommended Posts

So I have heard it numerous times if you are inflating your tubeless tyres and trying to mount the bead take out the valve core to maximize the airflow, whether you are using a compressor or on the side of the trail using a CO2 bomb.

But how exactly do you do this?

Do you keep a spare valve handy with the valve core permanently removed because removing the valve core is not very easy and often damages the valve and writes it off.

Also not the kind of thing you want to do on the side of the trail with your one and only valve!

Screws in or out....designed to do it....if you are damaging it, you are doing something wrong.

Done it plenty plenty times...conversions / filling up stan's yet to damage a core.

More often than not the entire core comes out when I unscrew the valve to inflate the tyre.... and whoosh, out comes all the air!

yip be careful of that little oopsie...make sure you are not turning the entire core out when you just want to fill up wiht air.

Those little plastic core removal tools makes it a breeze to screw the core in and out. And it is so small and light, you can keep one everywhere you might need it, tool kit, tool box, garage and car.

I know with a Schrader valve you can extract the core, it just screws out. With a Presta valve the core will drop down, into the rim/tire cavity.

Dont know if I am 100% correct on this.

No okes, you talking about the whole valve thing itself - once that's screwed out/removed, what do you screw the presta-to-shrader converter onto or the CO2 bomb adaptor both what attach to the valve body itself. Just to clarify the valve body is the valve itself, not the threaded valve stem it scews into

Once the valve core is removed there's nothing to screw the adaptors onto, unless you plan on valiantly pressing them on and losing pressure air flow or CO2, which defeats the object.

I made a plan though and removed the shaft thing/with lock nut, that locks the presta valve closed, out of an old presta valve and now I can swop that empty valve body out with the existing valve and still attach adaptors etc correctly and get max flow.

Ok, I think I get what Skylark is saying. Once you have removed the core, the adapter doesn't screw onto the base anymore?

Perhaps you can try this trick I posted where you use part of the presta cap. I think that the cap can still screw onto the base?

the cap also screws onto the core

The valve core I have with the shaft thing/with lock nut removed works a charm , just tried it now.

So I still want to know how the many people who recommend removing the valve core to seat tubeless beads are using CO2 bombs or shrader adaptors at petrol stations with the valve core removed??
