Hi All,

I'm looking for any suggestions on how to transport 2 mtbikes on the back of my doublecab without buying expensive racks etc.

Anybody got some ideas or pictures on what to make?

Your assistance will be appreciated.

Regards

1m piece of flat aluminium profile, get at any glass place, and 2 hold fast, fork clamps. dont even need to tie bikes down.

This here cost me under R400, and can be used in any bakkie

I had one of these bolted to the rollbar of my DC, then I could load the back, put the tonneau cover on, and the bike would be loaded last, with the rear wheel tied with stretchies to the tailgate. You have to watch for height restriction bars though.

Friend of mine has 2 old front hubs bolted on just inside his tailgate to bolt forks onto (with a third hub bolted on just below the back window). The corrugations in his loadbed acts as runners for the back wheels. This is finished off with a strap over the top tubes spanning from side to side. Only glitch is bolt through axles and the like so he is looking at mounting interchangeable front hubs for different bikes.

Cheap, discrete and very versatile.

Thanks all for your suggestions and advise.

This helps a lot, was also thinking of the front fork clamps on a square tubing to fit the back of the doublecab.

Will do measurements and start with this new project of mine.

+1. I've done the same thing with rectangular steel tube and recently changed the quick release adapters to 15mm through axle. Works like a charm and bikes are safe in the back.

There are two things you need to check when placing/making your rack: the length of the bikes (29ers are a bliksem), and the width of the bars (700mm bars overlap if the fork base is not mounted in the right place). I'll post pictures tonight.

Thanks FondyMig.....and Meentb

I appreciate. one bike is a 29er and other 26.

Will definitely measure the bikes and back of bakkie before cutting and welding etc.

Thanks for the advise

Why don't you just get one of those Dakine blankies? Island Style also make them

This.

Also the quickest and easiest way to shuttle up! Just buy a long chain/lock of some sort.

I can fit two bikes on the back of my 2cab lying flat. First one fits fine, only need tolower the seat (got a dropper post). Then I cover the bike with a thick blanket and place the 2nd bike on top, lying flat with the front wheel removed.
