I don't think it was an attack on Meurant, just trying to to say if you do something full time you have more time to spend on it than someone who has a full time job.

I am not saying the delay is right. But I didn't care because I was having a great time talking crap with buddies I haven't seen in a while.

I don't know what the hold up was but I am sure there was a valid reason. Unless you spend some time discussing your issues with Hanco after the event or even emailing him afterwards if you had other responsibilities that had to leave early for. Why are you complaining here? Why did you pay R300 I only paid R200

No this is the second time this has happened.

Thus me saying speak to the event organiser.

Ok well then apologies to Hanco and you for all organiser-related complaints aimed at you. No apologies for the rest though.

I got the amount wrong. It was R200. Irrelevant to my point.

I thought I was having a discussion with Hanco, which has now been pointed out to be incorrect. I'll be sure to raise it with Hanco next time I see him.

Sorry, I was under the impression Karate is Hanco, so my apologies...

Karate, do you mind sharing who you are, seeing as we're all grown up and real here (as opposed to a bunch of anonymous keyboard jockeys)?

Hi Everyone,

I see things are going a bit crazy here.

Let me start to explain.

1. The reason for the late start(I think we ran 15 min late) - The bakkie(Jan the farm owner of Steilte) that dropped off the SS1 finish pod got stuck because of the heavy rains the day before.

2. The pods need to be out and set up, then Riaan(Committee member) and I do the sweeping runs. We make sure all the track marking are correct, we also test the timing at the same time. If the timing does not work then it is our runs that do not count and not the racers. We can then confirm the track clear for racing.

3. We have to then get to the top and before everyone else to do this, and at the same time be at the bottom to set you guys off.

4. The wait at the top of SS1 is something we are looking into. The current problem is 100 or so riders leaving at the same time and then almost getting at the top at the same time, with 1 min intervals between riders to not catch a rider you end up with a bit of a wait. We are planning to seed the rider into 3 groups for the next one and set you off at different start times.

5. As for the R200 race entry, this is really not much, just to give you an idea. 4 pods for this event was about R7k, then the number boards with the RFID tag on the back is about R40(and yes many riders don't give them back, and we have to pay for new ones. Medics are also in the region of R3-R4k, Race insurance, land access, and the list goes on and on. My point is, R200 is a movie out on a Friday night with your girl, with some popcorn and cooldrink, vs. riding some of the best trails in the WC that Jan and his workers had to slave away at(that also needs to get paid) R200 is nothing compared to EU events, just ask the guys who has raced there. It easily goes up to 100eu.

6. We are improving as we go, with limited man power we can only do what we can. 2 hands can just do so much. So please guys, if you know of sponsors, or can offer your vehicle, or time to help please do. Without that it is really hard to host the events.

7. Please feel free to come and chat to me after the race about things we can improve. I am always around and try and talk to everyone and find out if they had a good time.

Hope to see you at the next one!

Cheers

karate monkey == hanco == hankeeb

To make bunch of statements and then try to say it is not you and then go and create hankeeb also tells a story.

Meurant in what ever form has done LOTS for our sport and does sometimes compromise on what he will really like to do cause he understands how the mtb works here.

For the ones say doing things for the love of it. If your asking or expecting acknowledgement then your not doing it for the love of it any more.

Untill WP enduro events show that can run a event correctly they wont see me. Hanco tried to convince me that it would take no more that 2h. Now if trusted and made arrangement accordingly I would have been super late.

Also some WP DH and enduro need to start understanding is there is a world outside of them. When setting dates for events take of those eye covers and take a look around. Something like potential long weekend WILL have an effect. Most rider is family people and asking them to pick between their family and event is not fair.

just my 2c

the waiting ar stage 1 is a pain in the hole but this happens at all the enduro events I,ve been to.

This is not helped by guys who queue jump , we got up the hill about mid pack olny to leave Ss1

with the last group of guys. Not the orginizers fault but it does increase the waiting time.

That's where the seeding and then 30 second gaps comes in. If we're seeded, and leave in groups of comparative skill / speed, then a shorter gap won't make that much of a difference and you won't have much faster riders catching and trying to pass you (which is why there's a 1 minute gap, to avoid that sorta thing as much as possible)

It will of course mean that you need to be honest. Although - if WPDH use these results as their seeding stats for the next event, it will automatically improve things for all of us. As long as we leave on time from the bottom, that is.

Very true.

Now that we have some data on the riders we can actually seed you and put you in 2 or 3 groups.

So the next one will be much better because of that.

Yeah, noticed the queue jump too... i pumped the climb so that hopefully i could get a photo ^_^ ...was on top when many started to arrive after me. i also ended up at the back of the bunch somehow . so again no photo i suppose... It has its pro's and con's though, nobody overtook me haha!!

for what it is worth, i ride All mountain - and i am totally enjoying the race format side of it. These events are doing great in my opinion, just the fact that it is growing is totally awesome in my books. I'd ride every event like this in the Cape Town if i had the time and money to do so... I understand the hick-ups and frustrations, i too have my own. i really hope we get more Enduro's in per year as well. All in all, i am sure 2015 will be a great Enduro year!!!!

Oh and im not too clued up about the efforts or the way these events are organised so please dont shoot me down. Im just a grateful supporter/rider/consumer whatever you wanna call it...

If this answer had been earlier (see what I did there) there would have been far less scratching and biting in here.

Just a thought but anything you do, if you want it to be a success, has to be based around treating the customer fairly. That is still the case even if you are non profit and providing your time and labour for free.

The nasty attacks on Nico by Karate Monkey do nothing except upset s potential customer and without repeat customers any venture will struggle.

It's a bit of a shame that a positive thread about a positive event was derailed by the lack of a sensible approach to seemingly valid criticism.

For clarity I use the term customer rather than rider because that is what they become the moment you charge a fee for your product.

Thanks for the input.

Some of the big names in the sport did come to me after the event and we did have a chat with regards to the waiting time at the top and so. It all depends on how you go about doing it, like Myles Kelsey, had a chat with me after the event in person and we could actually sort some things out.

The majority of the Pro and older riders for some reason understands the work that goes into it and would come to you in person rather than going to a public forum. That way you can keep it constructive.

But look, the sport is still new in SA, we are busy setting up a rulebook with the CSA that is based on the EWS rules and it will be out soon.

Things are falling into place and WP and KZN are really growing the Enduro scene in SA.
