Greatest one day race on the planet.

How popular must Hayden Roulston be in the Trek team bus at the moment...

Eish.....can just imagine.

It will be very interesting to see how some of the lightweight GC riders deal with the cobblestones in this year Tour.

Probably the same way they did in 2010... Surprisingly well. And I don't think you'll see Cancellara destroying the peleton like he did then either.

Didn't Frank Schleck crash and end his tour on the cobblestones in 2010?

I'd expect a few splits in the peloton at least.

Yes, the cobbles are the domain of the powerful riders, but as light as a TDF GC contenders are they have abnormally high power.... so top GC contenders shouldnt be too disadvantaged by the cobbles. Look at the ITT's at the TDF.... If i remember correctly Wigans and Froome have beaten the TT specialist on occation.

The cobble pose high crash risk factor, i think thats more the worry.

I reckon cobblestones are a silly idea in the TdF - 200 okes trying to get onto the cobbles first is a recipe for disaster.

Remember the moss covered causeway a few year back? That and the cobblestones a few years back did little for excitement apart from eliminating a few GC riders.

Wiggins' top 10 a PRoubaix impressed me no end - didn't think the skinny okes could handle the jarring. Good on him!

I agree, Wiggo certainly impressed at PR.

Cobbles won't be a problem, teams will look after GC contenders and others will risk all and have a shot at glory. It must be tough to win the Tour :whistling:

Wiggins has been bulking up again. He put on a fair fews kegs pre World TT and is looking forward towards his return to the track.

There was an article on one of the main sets where they asked numerous pros what they thought his changes were and one that really stuck out was from Phinney (?) and he said that being an pursuiter then physically he's really well set for the efforts of Roubaix. Full on exertions and smooth for up to 2kms at a time and then back off. Kinda makes sense. I think toughness and positioning will always be a worry.

Vino playing babysitter during 2010 Tour de France stage 3 on the cobbles at Haveluy…

Contador lost over a minute that day.

I can assure you the lightweight GC riders are not looking forward at all to stage 5 this year. Nothing to gain, but so much potentially to lose.
