Thanks Guys, this does help alot.

Once i know what these riders are doing for the 100km rides, then I can better decide whether Im fast enough for the bunch, or whether I would create havoc.

Also will check on the rules applicable before registering as a "Racer"

To be quiet honest i fancy the earlier starting times, and found myself riding alone alot in my current seeding as it appears not many in the BL/CL groups form fast pelatons, however in saying this, safety is of paramount importance and once "qualified" I will begin looking at upgrading my license.

Thanks again!

If you ride in slow groups in B or C you are not riding at the front of those. Front of B is normally faster than the middle to end of A.

Or are you riding off the front of B or C? In which case you should reconsider the races you do so they count towards your seeding into A or VA/VB/VC/VD

This whole racing licence thing seems like a bit of a farce to me. Anriette Schoeman was the official ladies winner for the Herald cycle Tour, but she was actually far from being first. It just doesn't make sense.

Not this again *smh* :whistling:

Again, there is a big difference between a racing group and an open group. Racing groups do not worry about time, just the win. In anyway, I would rather start to question the ladies averaging over 40km/h, not that does not make sense.

L = Long route. Used for races where there are different distance to chose from.

Alphabet soup (AL, BL, CL etc.) is the open seeded category. Entry requires CSA Membership.

Elites, Woman's Elites, and the different age categories (vets and the younger categories) are all licences categories. Entry requires a CSA Racing Licence, and your seeding index must be less than 20. If your seeding index is not less than 20, you are wasting you money on the licence.

(Also, I think that Elites have some other requirements, like I think you have to be a member of a team. I'm not sure of the details though.)

sinsible but now how do you check you seeding its no longer on sa seeding or wherever it used to be

There's something fishy about those results... Nevermind lots of double entries, look at the men's top averages as well! I think the 55km riders may be mixed up in this lot... Expect to see some changes.

Times look suspect, If those times are correct, at the ave speed you will have ladies in later open groups blasting past the the earlier start lic ladies

Rather look at another race as well (As mentioned above), there was a guy that beat Nolan by 38min with an average speed of 53!

I think there are a large number of errors for the Herald on RaceTec. You will see if you look at the men, lots of duplicates, and very unrealistic times. Maybe they have mixed up people doing the 55km in the 106km results.

Ok, that would make sense in this case. It's too early for them to have done all corrections.

I may happen that someone riding in the later start groups for the long route decided, for whatever reason, to take the short route instead, and passed over the finish mats with an incredible finish time. The timekeepers and organisers then have to go look at the past history of the riders in question and make adjustments.

I'm not sure if the short route for the EP Herald had an additional timing mat, but this has been a known problem with the PPA races in the Western Cape. Some not so innocent riders have used this tactic to unfairly get a better seeding, and then use that as a basis to qualify for league racing. Our club had one such rider that habitually did this, including in the Argus cycletour, and it went all the way to a PPA disciplinary, where he was found guilty/banned, and ejected from our club.

As regards the licencing and rules issue, clearly there were some riders in the EP Herald VB 2nd bunch that didn't understand the rules. So when the VC breakaway came past they joined on and didn't care for the rest of us saying they weren't allowed to. There wasn't an official in sight either. Seems that licencing is just a means for some to get a faster time in a perceived faster bunch.

I wonder if some of the more experienced hubbers can offer an opinion. I've done a couple of races now and have managed get an A seeding for the last couple and gotten my seeding index to below 20. While I enjoy most of the races (except the dischem ride4sight) I'm getting a bit tired of hearing carbon cracking all around me every race, to the point where I'm wondering if it's worth the risk. So here's the question, I'm considering upgrading to a full race licence under the assumption that riding with the more experienced Vets would be a lot safer. Is this the case or am I fooling myself?
