Is there any specific MTB training program?

My son is 16 and rides at fairly decent pace, he does not really train that hard as he only rides with me(mostly on weekends only). I'm a recreational rider just to keep in shape and I'm holding him back if he rides with me.

With the Berge en Dale road race (55km)this past weekend he did a 1:56 on his MTB as I could only manage 2:08 on my road bike.

I would like to put him a training program that would benefit him in order to improve on his times. His current fitness is basically just hockey fitness and riding his bike to practice and back.

His first MTB race for the year will the 30km USN this weekend.

Go have a look at the fittrack and science to sport websites they have structured programs, maybe one of there programs might work

Do not use Fittrack.

They are useless.

I bought a 4 week Argus training program from them on Monday.

I still have not received the program and this is after many telephone calls and emails I have not received 1 reply

Www.sciencetosport.com has event specific training programmes. I biught one for sani2c and I'm very impressed. Dr Jeroen and Dr Mike respond personally to any questions and offer great advice in addition to the programmd. Very highly recommended. These are the top coaches in the country!

I agree with you Squire, there programs are heads and shoulders above anyone else offering the same service. I've mentioned this before but the 4 coaches / owners are really good people and also really down to earth if you follow their escapades on twitter, Instagram or Strava. Dr Mike and John seem to do silly things on their bikes.

If you are willing to put one together yourself, Joe Friel's various straining bibles give some great advice. Can go pick one up at Exclusive Books....

Hi,

Did you buy a personalised plan as normally the plan just upoads onto your userprofile on the site .

No email needed.

For MTB you will have to do more Endurance and strength training , there is not as many surges as you would have in a road race. He will need at least Heart rate monitor to be able to follow most training programs.

Yip bought the 4 week program for Argus.

I got the 2 programs for previous 94.7's under my training programs but not the 1 I bought

And today is Thursday and I still have not received an email or telephone call back.

Pathetic service, luckily it was only R30 for the program

You are very wrong in your post.

Tell him where he is wrong so that the OP will know what you mean. Making a statement like that without any justification or counter argument is pretty useless which makes you wrong as well !!
