carry all your stuff on race day? So much to carry and so little place to put it.....

Particularly interested in seeing / hearing how people carry their spare tubes / tubbies and tyre inflation devices (pumps or gas canisters)

Pictures would be nice :D

I have got very minimalist over the years.

Fluid: I carry one 32Gi bottle between the bars. Take water at every station, use to drink, wet myself down and discard. The 32Gi should last a lap, will pick up a second at Special Needs. Bottle cage on frame stays empty unless really hot.

Food: Tape my gels to the top tube. Bars and a few potatoes go in bento box on the top tube. Gu Chomps are available on the course for variety.

Spares: Tiny bag under the seat attached with velcro strap (no cages or contraptions). One tube, chainbreaker, levers, tyre patches, two bombs and adapter. 2 Nurofen, 2 antihistamine, 2 standard bolts. Very tightly packed. Lezynne very small multitool sit on front of seatpost in little neoprene pouch. Very quick to access if necessary.

All worked out to be the aeroest and lightest.

At 70.3 I rode with an Under Armour long sleeve top with no pockets. Way cooler than Tritop and no sunburn. Still considering what to do for IMSA, dependent on need for pockets.

On the run, I use a Nathan running belt for my gels and 32Gi bottle.

- Xlab turbo wing behind the seat + 2 bottle cages

- tool bag sits under the turbo wing

- 1x profile design aero bottle in the front

- profile design top tube bag (food storage)

1x bottle of concentrate 32GI (= 4x bottles, mixed with a bit of water) i just mark with a black pen the level for each bottle then at the water points just get cold water and use one mixture from the concentrate and throw that into the aero bottle.

I have a spare cage on the seat tube as a backup.

the other bottle cage on the turbo wing, I use this below to store tubes and anything else.. (make sure its packed in tight, otherwise the rattling will drive you crazy!)

I try and train with products that will be offered on race day and utilise the special needs bag on the bike and run.

will have a look for a pic of my setup

I agree with Dave

The 2 loop course will help in this regard. You therefore only carry what you need for 90km's. Special needs bags are there to help us.

I will carry only one small bottle (500ml) in which I will mix a very strong carb drink on the back of the bike - this I will change over at special needs. I also have a front bottle cage that I will fill with 200ml water only and fill up completely on top of the first hill and from there on as needed, at no stage do I want more than 1 litre/kg of fluids on my bike as I believe it is not effective.

People pay R35,000 for a frame that weights 2kg's lighter but then they put four bottle on it and only really start drinking at 60km.

Oh and I will eat a few gels along the route since my entry was so expensive.

Thanks chaps - Dave you covered it all, got any pics of your stead with the stuff

I use a camel back - you can carry over 3l's of water and then I take 2 multi tools (in case on breaks), 3 spare tubes, 4 bombs, hand pump (incase I have more than 4 punctures), I also have a small radio in their so I can pick up radio algoa as it gets lonely right at the back. I also carry a spare shirt and windbreaker as well as spare sweat band in case its really hot.

Maybe you should just carry a spare bike?

Minimalist for me too. I strap 6-8 Gu's to my topbar and leave food in special needs bag (bananas, carb drink & stroop wafels).

I drink a lot on the bike, so initially have a 750ml bottle with something like 32GI which I'll swop out along the way.

Also 1 small saddle bag with a tyre lever, tube, adapter, 2 bombs and a patch kit.

Where do you carry the microwave to heat up your food?

One of those trailers you can use to stick the kids in.

Pro tip, take your oldest kid along in the trailer, and they can mix your bottles and warm up your snacks in the microwave so you don't need to stop.

Everyone using clinchers (tube tyres)....no tubbies glued on to your expensive plastic deep section wind catchers?

Is the microwave to warm up the contact adhesive for the tubbies?
