What do you guys say is the ideal gear ratio for the new course?

How do those hills on the new course compare to some of our hills in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town? Any one with some ideas - is it like Vissershok or Odendaal Street?

I just want to be sure I don't have to push my bike on the day.

Need some advise please ...

48/16.... Its a perfect ratio for the PE course......

(But seriously, it is..... I rode the 2013 Herald with it and it was perfect except for the loong flats through the reserve...)

Wide range required depending on your ability.

11 for the downhills and long flats. 25 or bigger to spin up the ups. You don't want to overload those quads or you will pay later.

Hey Big J

This can depend on your cycle strengths and preference, do you like to grind out the big gears and ride a standard crankset or are you high cadence and prefer to use a compact crank.

In my opinion a 53/39 chain-ring with a cluster ratio of 11-25 should give you a broad enough range to cover the course comfortably.

I am going with a 53/39 chain-ring with a cluster ratio of 12-27, I may not need the 27 but its nice to have for a safety net. Also going without an 11 prevents the temptation to churn a big gear
