Froome dropped out of Tirreno with a back problem, Porte also then dropped out due to illness, now this. Are these retirements related, I wonder?

Of course. With the spotlight on Team Sky once one of their riders have been found with irregular blood values they are obviously concerned that the UCI would then be looking at other members. Anyone with half a brain knows doping is still very much part of pro cycling. How and what they are doing is still up for debate but unquestionably it is happening. Sky like most of the major teams know people would love to catch them out for doping so they counter with dodgy stories about fake illness and injuries to manage their riders "performance" in and out of competition when the heat is on. And before anyone starts flaming me about how cycling has cleaned up its act and that Sky is clean you seriously need to accept the fact that doping is and will always be part of pro cycling and every other professional sport. Not one of the top GC riders are clean. No I can't prove it and never will be able to but if you've been around cycling for long enough you know hard truth about what is going on behind the scenes. Just enjoy the spectacle.

Does pulling out of a race mean the anti doping controls stop?
