I can buy a 29er Cannondale Flash 2012 frame. The frame was cracked just under where the seatpost goes in. It was fixed in Cape Town. Any opinions on cracked frames being fixed?

Cracked frame repaired under seatpost? Seriously, whatever anyone says here, knowledgeable or otherwise, are you ever going to be able to ride that frame to your max without wondering if it's going to bust under you in a bad way? I know I wouldn't.

Edit - aside from the BB that must be about the worst place you could have a crack in terms of it playing on your mind.

a carbon frame if repaired correctly (using the proper procedure and curing process) will not break at the same spot again the resin mix will make the frame even stronger.

There you have it - someone who knows about this stuff!

(would still worry the heck out of me though ... ;)

My KTM Taser 2.0 developed 2 cracks at the head set - got it swopped out as soon as I could ( Thanx CT Cycle Lab) - wasn't prepared to take a chance

my brother has been riding a specialized roubaix for almost 4 years now, which seatstay was repaired and i can say that i dont think it will ever break.

the reason for the first break was that the bike was involved in a crash.

I have repaired many carbon products over the past few years from bicycle frames to windsurfer masts and have not once had something break again. As said earlier in the thread if done properly it will be stronger than before and would not break in the same place again.

As for the Flash breaking where the BB and seat tube meet, that's their "weak" spot if I can call it that. If it hasn't broken there yet for those that ride them watch that area with a hawk eye :whistling:

OP post some pics of the repaired area if you can... Lets see....

I have a PINA MTB ( as in Pinarello FV4 ) . This is a "bling" bike showing off the carbon frame. Will it still be "bling" after repair , i.e. will it blind in after clear coat ?

Jip if done properly and using the appropriate weave of carbon for the top layer.

Bought a Scalpel frame of the hub where the chainstays (Carbon) started separating from the BB shell (aluminuim)

Took it to a guy that builds experimental aircraft. He fixed it and it is stronger than it's ever been. I told him he must not do a job that will win a concourse delegance but must be ridiculously strong
