Good work Nige, I hope it's me you're giving the chance to; making a return after a gap of a few years. Was always a great ride, relatively chilled and well organised.

The 2 days suits me perfect, I only have to take 1 day off work and with it being over a weekend it's also easier to make arrangements for my children.

If you feel short-changed by the entry fee, do the following until you feel better:

1. Trap harder and murder yourself between the water (hospitality) points.

2. Spend more time at the water points - relax and chat a bit. Enjoy all the goodies on offer - even biltong and ice cream (This will also force you to put the hammer down again).

3. Eat as much as you want before and after every stage.

4. Social till late at night with people that are there for only one purpose......to cycle (combined with chemical recreation of the fluid type, aka birre)

5. Opportunity to experience great scenery and maybe have an imbizo with a rhino.......(!!!!)

Hope this helps to soften the financial blow.

Is that "birre" supplement WADA approved???

If you havent done it before then as everyone says its a nobrainer - R6800 for the 2 day is ok as the organisation is slick ...

Pity that the trails are being worn in by rider numbers to the point that they may as well be a highway ... but then again the 2 day is now being punted as the "new-to-stage-racing" event .. so i suppose that suits a large majority of riders which is great for the sport.

So if you havent done it ... DO IT ... if you have done it 7 times like i have ... think of giving someone else a chance (like im doing)

My hart klop sommer custard!. I just hope people do give others a chance. As an example, I have been placed on the waiting list for Sani 4 years in a row now without any luck. This year I have come the closest at spot number 33. I have tried all channels but nothing! Thumbs up to you Nigel!

Now this is the one thing that irritiates me about the current stage events - the "once you are in you are in" mentality ... there are so many riders looking for entries - they could really create a proper "cult" style vibe if the entries were first pay first serve ... then riders have bragging rights to say that they got into the event - not just "ok i did it last year so i suppose i will do it again" attitude ... if the organisers did it this way they would have riders almost fighting to get spots ...

But then again - looking at the events and numbers - the organisers business plans must be ok ... hahaha

Yes, after all, business is business. And we cannot blame farmer Glen of looking after his own pocket first if you look at what he is doing for the communities around S2C and the enthusiastic development of those brilliant trails (apparently, I would not know :P ).

I just hope to get in next year. That will be attempt number 5. If I don’t, then I think that will be it for me. Time to save up and move to the RASA & Epic (totally different types of rides but still my big goals in MTB’ing).

Then you better start saving big time because next year's epic is R53.7k

my feeling on entries for stage events with long waiting lists is that you get three years in a row, and then you move automatically to the back of the waiting list. If you opt not to partake in one of those three years you also move to the back of the waiting list. Will just give so many more people opportunity to partake

edit: you could possibly look at offering teams to pay a premium to renew their entry for another three years which may involve sponsoring a disadvantaged team or something like that for that for one year

I'm afraid that's just moved it from page 1 to page 20 on my Bucket List!

Just as well it's not on my bucket list! I'm happy to watch the guys suffer on the telly.

Coming back to the Berg and Bush, it's great riding & a nice vibe. Only done the 3 day descent, I'm sure the great trek and 2 day are considerably more chilled.

If you think you think you can manage the 3 days I'd go for that rather. The descent off the escarpment is special. It also seems like better value to me.

It does concern me they're increasing the field size this year.

But anyway not planning on doing it this year - going to try the 3 towers which is more or less at the same time.
