West Rand Cycles

I recently dropped my bike off for a mayor services at west rand cycles. During the service they constantly kept me up to date with what's happening to my bike. They told me that it would be done and when I went through to collect it the supplier of the final part wasn't able to deliver it. West rand cycles gave me a test bike to ride in the mean time.

They didn't need to do so but they did and that will make me a supporter of them for the future. Truly excellent service.

You are lucky, dropped my bike off there, collected and when I got home I realized both my skewers are bent. So took it back, thinking I will stay calm... I ask Eben to have a look in private without making a scene, so his excuse, they are very busy and the work shop guys are working hard and thats why it happened.... Blah blah blah...

I asked for it to be raplaced, promises were made. Nothing. Phone 1week later, more promises... Yet nothing!

So I decided to cut my losses and wont support them again!

Really, if you are that busy not to notice that you f-upped both my skewers and then not even say sorry or try to rectify it, then you are not a good business manager!

I've had hot and cold experiences from WRC. However I must mention that Eben and team have always been straight up and rectified issues with no problem/attitude. Junior also did a sweet job panelbeating a ding out of an ali hoop when two other "very reputable" lbs' were only interested in supplying new... without even looking at it. Wrc have my vote.

Used to be a supporter of them but wont set foot in the store again. Telling me my crank wont fit just so that they can sell one they had there for 8k. Took bike to cyclelab little falls and the part that wrc need was in the box.

I've had nothing but excellent service from WRC - been shopping there since the shop started in the 90's and will continue to do so (it's worth the trek to the Dorp, trust me). Eben, Lynne and co. have always been more than helpful, often going the extra mile to get things done. The new shop has an awesome vibe and atmosphere. There are 3 sides to every story, we all know how that goes. And yes nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, but I honestly can't fault them.

Agree with Stretch46 - 3 sides to a story. I've been shopping there since 2004 and can honestly say the service from Eben and crew is always outstanding. I now live in Centurion and still drive through there to do all my cycling shopping because of there expertise, knowledge and informative advise.

Beyond that, Eben and his crew will always try and help me out as far as possible to the best of their ability.

What I have learned from my experiences of dealing with shop owners and sales staff (and not just cycling specific) is attitude. Taking someone into a corner to have a private conversation doesn't mean that you had a civilised conversation.

In all honesty, to run to a public forum about 2 skewers?

Westrand cycles is a privately owned company being operational for 17 years. That says a lot. The fact that fellow cyclist have entrusted their bikes for the Epic in Eben's capable hands for last 6-7 years says even more.

unfortunately i dont stay closeby enuf to go here often, but on occarsion ended up there. know eben having bought my first secondhand road bike serving many happy miles, but the cherrie is junior, he knows his shyt, and is vocal about what works and not even if that may cost him a sale. top class. so when i think about WRC i regret not living on the westrand. oor en uit

I was really disappointed in their service. Contacted them to get me a Park Tool Spoke Tension meter and was told they will let me know when it arrive from supplier. I am still waiting to hear from them. Got the tool within two days from another LBS. When they changed to a Concept store I phoned and askeb Eben personally to get me a Specialized Carbon Roval MTB rim. Said he will phone me back in a few minutes. Now three weeks later and no response. Will not waste my time again to support them.

Different strokes for different folks, I have used them in the past, not too happy with the service I had done on a shock and being told a M520 pedal spanner thingy ma bob was some ridiculous amount and I got one from Johan Bornman for around R70! Personally I travel 4km further and go to Cajees, the same shop many moan about!

However their new shop looks very nice (loads better than it used to look) and I have bought a couple of spares from them recently as the shop is next door to a lawnmower shop, two birds, one stone....!

Perhaps that WR didn't acknowledge the damage they caused, made a stupid excuse and didn't make an effort to repair the skewers might be enough to upset the OP.

Maybe the skewers were grey fakes...

I did not run to puplic forum, I read the OP's comment and decided to give my opinion. This is already a few months down the line, so its not like I am still hot about it and looking for a fight. Just my own experience.

I used them for a few years, bought my new bike there, lots of spares, services.

But the way Eben handled it spoiled the shop for me and I wont support them again.

Ps, no grey imports... Still have the receipt and bought from another big name shop in jhb.

Its not even really about the skewers, my main issue was the fact that their workshop staff could do this and not realize was shocking to me!
