We all know it was accidental, but if the route was clearly signposted at the point where they took the wrong turn (as in the official statement) then the commissionaire didn't have much choice to give the full penalty

On what should he base his discretion to reduce the penalty? The signpost wasn't missing or pointing the wrong way, they didn't follow other riders or a marshall on a bike, they weren't the following the next days signs - he has to base his decision to mitigate the penalty on something more concrete than the general opinion otherwise he can be accused of being biased towards the RECM team.

I think it is a stupid rule, but as long as it is there it must be applied consistently.

According to Benno the markings were not clear and no clear advantage was gained.

Anyhow it seems like they simply just went out today to fix this little problem.

Well then someone is lying  ^_^

Just chuffed it seemingly wouldn't affect the end result

See in the video. The ladies spez don't have the inverted shock or electric gears etc. Sponsors not giving them top product? Or just the ladies can't be bothered

The ladies are riding the same SRAM XX1 as the men. I am not sure why they do not have the inverted shocks, might be personal preference.

SRAM does not make electric MTB gears by the way, so none of the pro teams on SRAM is on electric gears. I doubt I would trust the electronics on a rough race like the epic though...

Then the only question that remains is if the markings wasn't clear why were they the only team that took the apparant 4.5km shortcut?

So close to the finish you can deploy a marshall.

Still doesn't answer the question as to why they were the only team that went off course... It would be nice to see the GoPro footage of the incident

The 25 mens teams infront of them may have followed the wheels in front of them. Perhaps they were on their own at this point. Doubt there was a camera motorbike with them at that point.

Andrew Mclean is on electric gears.

Maybe the girls are not running the inverted shocks so that we can see that they are on Era's and not Epics, advertising?

I think Team Bulls might actually also be on the XTR Di2

It's been done. It seems the Hub has no power over the Cape Epic.... Who would have thought. Why don't we just drop it. But then again sometimes we like to debate things to death that we have no control over.

Anyone got any idea of the weather today? Are they going to suffer?

Please :)

The two girls made less of deal out of it themselves than #thehuberati Respect to them for that.

New day, some more thrills and spills but unless something BIG happens I expect the same results at the end of day. Masters cat looks the closest.

Did Brentjens and Azevedo have a technical? They are behind this morning.

Im rooting for Chic Foundation Flyers, they are trying hard for a podium finish.
