I'm looking to buy new pedals for my MTB and I've heard a lot of positives and negatives about all the different pedals, although I've never heard any complaints about Look S-Tracks, and seeing that the majority of the podium finishers in the Cape Epic all ride with S-Tracks I'm strongly considering them.

Can anyone give me opinions or any good pedals that I should also consider? Looking for pedals with a large surface area so Eggbeaters are out.

Thanks.

Depends what you after, if its durability, long life & cheap maintenance XT all the way. I used to ride Egg beaters but now XT, happy with all round performance with them & find in the muddy conditions its not that much of a difference to hook in/out. My opinion between 2 brands havnt ridden others

Used to use normal shimano SPD's, really bomb proof. Then I started to play the weight weenie game..... And looked at the eggbeaters. Thought it would be both light and good performer for winter. Well, after speaking to people re Eggbeaters 9 out of 10 had a negative experience re them. I then turned my attention to Look S track, 9/10 people changed to Look S track after having a lot of negatives re eggbeaters. Must say, I still love the "look" (LOL) of the eggbeaters, but you will have to REALLY convince me to change from my Look S track to something else. Really comfy, and like you I wanted a better/more solid platform for good peddling. The STracks most def provides this. Combined with a pair of S Works, shoes....... you'll be golden!!! Try Evobikes online for a good price.

It works for me, but you need to get what will work for you. Best.

S tracks are awesome by all means.

Saw them on CWC going for R650 ish on special some time ago.

I'm still using my Look Quartz and can't be happier.

All those pro's that you see riding with S-tracks probably were riding with Quartz before their replacements came out.

Thanks for the advice! Such a pity they don't make Quartz pedals anymore! And does anyone have any experience with Time MX pedals?

I've been using different versions of Time Atac's for over 10 years already. Ridden everything from Sani to Epic with them and never had any issues. In terms of durability I'd rate them right up there with the Shimano's

I stick to eggbeaters. The build in float helps with not forcing your knee in a wrong direction and the design helps with loosing mud.

...and the bearing issues helps loosing my mind haha, I'm one of the unfortunate ones that only had issues with Candy's

Two sets of Candys, not one single issue, great when exposed to mud, 2 years now. Think about cleaning method - pressure spray? Normal bearing effect! I just loosen mud with a hard bristle brush.

I also had the Quartz but S-Track is much nicer plus you can change part (you could not do this with Quartz if you bend the steel loop you had to replace the pedal) very easy to service all you need is a 19mm ring spanner.
