Bryton Rider and MTB-Problems

I baught a Bryton rider 21 in March this year. It seems that every time I ride on rocky terrain the thing just freezes at some point in the ride and I end up losing my ride or have to restart the thing at some point and lose half or most of a ride.

My theories are narrowed down to rocks hitting the cadence with integrated speed sensor. Should I take these off and only try to get info from the GPS computer itself when going off road or should I go see the local distributors and ask for a replacement. In case I only rely on the computer I can just as well try to hook up a small sized android phone and also save weight on crying a phone.

I so want to spend money on other things at this moment and a GPS it not one of them.

Chat to Bryton, they sort their issues out promptly (mostly) - hook them up on facebook or check their website for details. And don't listen to the Garminassies about Brytons being crap - they're not.

Ive done a load of races, and falls, and never had problems. Phone Bryton and check. Have you updated your bryton to the latest firmware??? Bryton posted now that there offices are with no power, so no phones at the moment, dunno when they be up again!!

I've had my Bryton 21 for almost a year now and never had any problems. I don't use a cadence/speed sensor though, only heart-rate monitor. It could be the sensor.

Good luck.

I'm still looking for my slip  . Luckily the lady at Solomons remembers me .. I think... and I'll try through them first. I upgraded used the recovery tool and the Bryton 21 works well on the road and district road. That is why I think it has something to do with rocks hitting the sensors and confusing the computer. But I think the tumble I took might have silenced the sensor for good. It just seems like when I was using Mapmyride on my samsung S3 except for cadence and heart rate got the same deal that I have now.

I kind of disagree, but it has nothing to do with the branding at all. I own a Edge500 and yes it works reasonably, but man it sometimes frustrates the crap out of me.

1. Speed/cadence sensor. Discarded because I could not keep the damn magnet attached to the crank.

2. I am told loading a *.gxp file is not easy. You need to juggle between several programs before you can download onto the device.

3. Garmin uses the barometric sensor as a selling point (they use to when the 500 was new) and it is indeed so accurate that it NEVER starts and stops a ride from the same exact position on the same elevation. Ask Garmin and they only offer sorry excuses.

4. If you're not the typical tech Geezer, booting up will become slower and slower over time and usage that you will start to think its broken. Its not but you wouldn't know.

If I have to upgrade something I bought new with new firmware, I will throw a tantrum. If I bought something new and it doesn't perform over the terrain I travel, then some salesperson WILL have to answer for it. it doesn't matter what brand you're using. They are all way too expensive to accept such rubbish performance. Get Bryton to sort out your device or get your money back.

It must be the speed and cadence sensor,I sold mine sensor as was not using it,I just ride heart rate and use the gps on my bryton 21T I would say best value for money. My friend bryton 50 fell and broke in the DC and called them up they replaced the bryton no questions asked and he didn't have a slip they give good after market service.

1. Speed/cadence sensor. Discarded because I could not keep the damn magnet attached to the crank. You need to clean the place where you attached the magnet with meths to ensure it sticks on a uncontaminated(oil and dirt) area.

2. I am told loading a *.gxp file is not easy. You need to juggle between several programs before you can download onto the device. Someone told you wrong...walk in the park, have done it multiple times, from strava or garmin connect.

3. Garmin uses the barometric sensor as a selling point (they use to when the 500 was new) and it is indeed so accurate that it NEVER starts and stops a ride from the same exact position on the same elevation. Ask Garmin and they only offer sorry excuses. It is definitely more accurate, see as you ride and the heat of the sun warms up our dear mother earth and the barometric pressure rises or falls based on this. Using the topo points to calculate elevation has two issues...little rolling "bumps" between points are unaccounted for and they are inaccurate at some places. You only have to upload a gpx file into a VR trainer and not apply smoothing to realize this

4. If you're not the typical tech Geezer, booting up will become slower and slower over time and usage that you will start to think its broken. Its not but you wouldn't know. Clean out your activities folder every 6 months...it is a mass storage device after all. Make backups on your laptop or desktop. Boots up in an instant.

I think you need to go and do some garmin homework....see above.

No need to thank...it is the superior unit. End van prent

Thanks guys. It seems like a speed&cadence sensor is going in the spare parts box. FFS I did the Magalies Monster and have Zip to show for it. Is the quality of data without the sensors good ie. speed. My cadence and even heart rate I mostly do not pay much attention to during training although I know I should.

I Everybody, please mail terence@bryton.co.za or call 0110234478

The device has probably got a loose battery connection and provided it is still under warrantee we will replace same day or offer a nominal core exchange fee for a new or ugrade to another model.
