A jacket is a must for my winter rides!! I have a First Ascent one with removable sleeves, I wear it as a vest when i warm up, just stash my sleeves in the pocket.

Layers are good with a decent moisture absorbing baselayer, then a long jersey and a decent fleece lined jacket. For the rain just keep a First Ascent Apple jacket as a backup. Santini, Castelli and Assos are the bees kness for jackets but pricey. There is a thread on winter jackets and gloves. For bibs het some 3/4 or full length. I got a killer deal on Castelli 3/4 bibs from Maestro's in Pta sub R500.

Cippo.. cant find the thread on jackets..do you have a link or the thread name? Asseblief Meneer!

Would LOVE to know where in Pta you found Castelli?

Seriously looking for a nice jacket and want to try them out.

Also looking for a Gabba Jersey just to see what the fuss is about.

I use a thermal underlayer sweat absorbing vest, with short sleeve top, armwarmers as I can take them off if it gets too hot (rather than a long sleeve top),normal bib shorts with legwarmers (same reason),buff and a good/warm set of gloves.I then use a yellow windbreaker on top of that, easy to slip into a back pocket afterwards.Mohair socks are great to keep the feet warm.

I enjoy Assos shorts but they are expensive, otherwise Giordana/Velotex Red label.

Hi guys

For me the missing link was a good set of winter gloves...

After loads of research, went not with cycling gloves but all weather climbing (rock) gloves - outdoor research storm trackers....

They feel solid enough to survive a mtb shale slide but warm enough to take the bike out of our cape doctor. Once the weather turns south again will test and give feedback

The winter cycling jackets and bib longs from ftech (asg) are unbelievable. Great quality and you can then layer minimally underneath for the really cold mornings.

Neoprene full length gloves and booties, with beanie and buff do the trick for me.
