  1. While it is a small change - being able to have the varia radar vibrate your wrist when there is a car speeding from behind you is a nice addition. what I dont get is my varia radar talks to my 510, but wont talk to a much newer fenix 3...
  2. Coming out of a Korean winter got some serious use out of this little corner of pain... Summer allowing me to get out more, but as it was said earlier, cant beat the convenience of IDT... (and yes, i need a bike stand)
  3. Maybe I'm missing something here but the thing I love about the kickr is that you don't burn your road wheels and can get accurate power readings when you stand up - why would you want this over a normal kickr? (Excuse the ignorance here...)
  4. Ok so now considering building a bike! The above choices vs a time xrxs vs a Ridley Noah Ultra 2012?
  5. Giant then. Sold!
  6. My thoughts too... Anything else worth considering in that range (£1900)
  7. To be honest - want it for the frame - "future proof" or at least a season or two Components I can upgrade as it goes...
  8. Both 105's http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-felt-ar5-14-48153/ http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-giant-propel-advanced-3-14-48147/
  9. Hi hubbers Am torn - looking at a giant propel advanced 3 or a felt ar5? Leaning towards the giant because it reads excellently, but the reviews are not keen on the rims... What are your thoughts?
  10. No stress... Anytime from 5:30, so can be as late as 6:30, but then we have to KOM it
  11. Hey gstar There are a span of people riding the mountain in the mornings - less so now that the weather is nasty... I try leave anytime from 5:30 and it takes 1:30-2:00 hrs via blockhouse - tafelberg road to town. Not stressed about time so chilled about fitness etc - drop me a pm wih your cell phone no and will what's app when next we ride. Luke
  12. Stupid question possibly, but are there any seats left on this bus?
  13. Hi guys I've been riding for around 2 years and started getting serious... (Ish) I started with the iphone 5 with a lifeproof case and bike mount. Run that with a wahoo hr monitor and a cadence and speed monitor. They work really well, I even use bluetooth earphones to listen to music at the same time. HOWEVER - enter battery life. Having the screen on drains battery life like crazy! So I pocketed the phone and setup voice alerts. Worked for a while, but still only gets me 3-4 hrs battery life. So then turn off data on the phone when riding - this gets you another hour or so.. BUT I still wanted to see the real time feedback. So I bought the rflkt+ from wahoo which is almost a dumb screen for the phone. Enter more battery life. it also have a altimeter and temp gauge - to make some of my gps strava climbs real... I now have 2 cadence monitors (1 for mtb one for road) and one hrm (I killed one by sending one to the wash) Bottom line is that I'm now doing rides over 6 hrs... Which means even with a extra battery some times I don't complete the ride officially cause my battery dies - this sucks because if it's not on strava it didn't happen!! Basically the iphone route is great if you don't plan on doing any rides over 5-6 hrs... After that I'd go garmin or suunto/polar. There is another thread that sums up iphone vs gps. There are two types of people in the world - those who go with a dedicated gps for the beginning, and those who try the iphone route and then buy a gps... I'm inclined to say that you fall in the second class if you plan on rides over 5 hrs On that note, anyone want some wahoo tech for a good price? also check out cycle meter app, gives you all the analysis you would ever want. Luke
  14. Did a ride this this morning - only noticed that it was 8 degrees when I checked my gps... Pumped for winter!

  16. Hi guys For me the missing link was a good set of winter gloves... After loads of research, went not with cycling gloves but all weather climbing (rock) gloves - outdoor research storm trackers.... They feel solid enough to survive a mtb shale slide but warm enough to take the bike out of our cape doctor. Once the weather turns south again will test and give feedback Luke
  17. Not sure where you work, but there are a few early morning rides from Rhodes gate to blockhouse and then into vredehoek. Also road from ladies mile to Fishhoek Hout Bay, town and back... Luke
  18. Hi guys, Want to do a daily commute between Rhodes gate and town (via blockhouse/dead mans tree) and know there are alot of people already doing it - can we setup a schedule - times and dates of the week? Luke
