Aargh. So envious right now. The race kicked off 8 minutes ago, by my calculation. Woulda, coulda, shoulda ... didn't. I believe even Francois du Toit is riding it, which is kinda cool considering so many of his bikes will be there too.

my boet has been supporting some of the guys...what a great concept this race is...First I have heard of it since I am all the way down in KZN...but I like that fact that some of your entry goes to sponsoring underprivileged entries

Seems like this is where they've been riding. (Pinched from Facebook.)

This section of road is called die "Rantepad" and connects Merweville / Fraserburg to Sutherland. It passes close by our farm - and I'v ridden it a few times...it's a mighty hard stretch of road...on knobblies...in dry weather. Much much respect to these dudes riding the road on vintage road bikes in ice rain, wind and super cold.

Ps - a bit of snow in Sutherland (Day 6) last night:

I took it to be the Ouberg Pass - is it a different road?

Mmm...yep got me thinking there. The photo posted by LeTurbo is indeed of the Ouberg Pass but to my understanding the Tour does not route through there (the pass is situated west of Sutherland). In my comment I was actually thinking of the Karelskraal Pass which cuts through the Nuweveld Mountains and connects Merweville to the escarpment - to become the "Rantepad" which goed to Sutherland. Spectacularly beautiful road - and really amazing on bike-back!
