Was it just me or was there a noticeable difference in the cadence between Froome and Contador? Froome seemed to attack and spin fast seated, while Contador reeled him in on a slower cadence while standing.

Technique that's worlds apart yeah

Windmill seated vs power strokes standing

Reminiscent of Lance vs Big Jan?

Contador is looking his most impressive since before the Clenbuterol issue.

He is going to contend at the tour this year.

I might have missed an important piece of information, but there seems to be a Porte hole in the Sky team. Is he injured?

Don't know if the Spaniard's a "diesel engine". He's quite fast on the pedals.

Fantastic display by Froome but unless the rest of Team Sky pulls it together he will be in for a tough time in the Tour. Day 1 of Dauphine in the mountains and he had to cover every attack. Porte blew early on and is not looking good. Thomas and the rest of them also peeled off early. Not sure Contador could hold on for much longer. Nibali lost time but was in difficulty early on already. Couple of youngsters looking good. More of the same today.

Here you can clearly see that Froome is riding on his small chain ring, think he rides a 42.

The worrying factor (read: alarm bells) riding at such a cadence one would need to have a lot oxygen available in the cardiovascular system.

Contador also said prior to the Dauphine that he hasnt sharpened his knife yet, he will use the Dauphine for that. So I guess Froome has done a lot more in VO2max training.

does anyone still remember Froome hitting the wall in the mountains at last years Le Tour? He was lucky to finish the stage with that time penalty.. With Wiggins out, Porte looking the way he is, and Contador lurking.. makes for a gripping TDF 2014.. hold on boys, we're in for a bumper!

I am stealing these off someones twitter account but how is this reply from Michelle Cound. I am convinced she does more harm than good for Chris. On another forum there is not 1 good thing to be said about her and the way she goes on and handles herself.

Tactically, I wonder if yesterday was the best result.

To my mind, the win became an issue of pride/ego, not expedience.

The Tour is the objective, not the Dauphine.

Leave the dick-swinging to the sprinters - it's their stock-in-trade.

He should have put a couple of digs in, then sat on and let the youngsters fight it out.

He would have shown that he is strongest, then sat back and "let" the others go for the win.

Yesterday was a tactical win for Contador. Froome is savvy enough to adjust his focus now.

At least I hope so.

Was wondering about the same thing. Obviously the bonus seconds may decide the overall result and Contador could be testing his legs. Is Froome laying down a marker? I recon he still had more in the tank.
