Hi Guys,

 

Just wanted to find out, what training times are there at Hector Norris Park?

I'd like to train in a group or with people around me.

 

I have spoken to Jeremy from VWE but their wednesday training times just don't suit my work / study schedule.

 

Any advise is appreciated.

While out on a Sunday morning ride...soeme one pointed out the cycling track just off south coast road in Durban...what a shame...just as much grass on the track as there is on the verge

 

It seems that there is a small group who show an interest at the kings park track.

 

At the rate cycling is growing i would have thought there would be more interest in track cycling...considering most people are going to mtb because they say riding on the road is tooo dangerous.

 

If people spread the word and more training opportunities were offered...i heard there are lots of bikes at the kings park track...you just need to take your own pedals. 

 

i am keen to try out track racing.

Track may be small, but the folks are super committed.  There has been an enormous amount of development that has taken place with the youngsters, with some super performances at kzn track champs and at SA's. 

 

I would also like to see track grow, it is a safe sport in a controlled environment, plus the racing is so spectator friendly.

Hi Isetech,

I have juvenile training and development on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.30 till 4.30pm and an Adult training session on Wednesday evenings from 5.45pm.

I have bikes for you to use to learn on.

Pop me a message with your cell number and I'll add you to the whatsapp group.

Last Wednesday evening we had 21 riders join the group of which 4 where newbies.

Im moving to Hong Kong in January and im really keen to have a look at it there. They have a state of the art velodrome there and will be hosting the 2017 world champs!

 

If only there was money to invest here locally I recon we could get some super riders into the world scene!

I decided to take a drive down to the track last night and see what it is all about.

 

Hylton goes out of his way to setup a bike then guides everyone on the track.

 

there were all levels of cyclists last night from beginners to pro...men...women...boys and girls...everyone out there enjoying it...i was wondering how the mix of riders would work...no issues at all.

 

it is not as dangerous as riding on the road...and not as boring as an indoor trainer.

Does anyone know what state the Hector Norris cycling track is in? Is it open for use, does anyone go there? 

 

I work in the CBD and thought this can be a good spot for an early morning track session.

 

Would appreciate any feedback.

Hector Norris is a very much active track, weekly league on Saturday from 13H00, quite a competitive as well as social racing happening there.

 

This is quite a lot of training happening there, check out VWE track academy on Facebook to get an idea and contact Jeremy Martins if you want to find out more about track riding times etc.

Yes, Hector Norris is very much in use and the league races happen there every Saturday afternoon from 2pm-5pm. Summer league and winter league, with training sessions happening with VWE Track Academy every Wednesday afternoon. Check out their website for any and all info  http://www.vwetrackacademy.co.za

 

Later on in the year the Gauteng Grand Prix is held there and every second year the Gauteng track champs... alternating with Pilditch in PTA.

 

So quite a bit of activity all year round
