2015 is going to be an epic year for track in South Africa, probably the most competitive in years. What with a competitive masters category that has been added, lots of ladies starting to "get" track racing, not the mention all the juniors and kiddies races.

Too much fun to be had, best of all it is far cheaper than any other type of racing available to cyclists in Gauteng. Safe too.

Exciting!

Hey All,

Fantastic day out yesterday, with Martin and Jeremy from the VWE academy. It was great to finally see what track cycling is about. It's a tough sport for sure, and I now appreciate why you need legs built like superman to do it.

We had the Silver medallist from the world champs there, and it was really impressive so see him at full tilt.

Thanks to Jeremy and Martin.

Nice meeting you Rastaman, impressive two lap pursuit with Bradley :)

Some info needed please:

1. From when to when does the season run?

2. Is anyone riding in the evenings during the week at HNP?

3. Any advice on starter gearing? I think my current 52 x 15 may be a little too long for my skinny legs.

I've put a bike together with some parts I had lying around and would like to get onto the track. Will appreciate any advice.

Hi S@B....There are short breaks between summer and winter leagues but a number of cyclists need to race through the winter due to the dates for Worlds.

There are structured groups and sessions on most days.

You should try get onto a 49x15 which is an 88" and I am fond of using 84" for early season leg speed development.

Have fun.

I've been considering getting into track for too long. My office is not too far away from the Cyril Geoghegan track in DBN. Anyone out there who can assist me with details/contacts for trying out the sport in DBN?

Thanks Wendell for the feedback. I'll call you to get some info on the structured sessions. Need to change my cranks so that I can put on a 49, will also go for a slightly shorter gear, I tend to prefer riding at a higher cadence.

Anyone have a tip to get a sprocket off an old wheels? Tried Q20 and still battling. The sprocket is proper tight and I don't want to damage the wheel (spokes and hub).

Try one of these... the teeth on the wrench normally grip the cog teeth pretty well if u set the size right...
