as part of future planing .... did you guys look after your own bikes or did you have mechanic packages ?

I imagine brake pads are simple things to change - but what about other "technical issues"?

We had no mechanic package.

My riding partner broke a few spokes on day 3; there was a bike shop who could fix it for him (they even had 26er spokes). When 3 more spokes broke on day 5, he bought a whole new wheel and there was a bike shop that built over everything that was needed.

Two things I would do differently if I had to do this one again.

1) I would fly without my bike - find a way to courier it to the start/registration, and from the finish. It's a lot less fuss - trust me on this one. And if I could, I'd pay someone to box my bike for me at the finish.

2) I would make sure I finished the last day in good time. I was the guy who climbed on the last bus to the airport in wet bib (1 min beach shower)  and slips slops thanks to a combo of finishing late (we had to wait for the medics to pick up a rider we found crashed and broken 4 km from the finish) and not being able to find the flippin' busses at the finish. I was also the guy who lost his ID book at the airport, and the guy who couldn't find the last bomb in his bike box. Yip, I was that tjop.

Anybody have a small J2c cycling shirt to swap for a new medium? Thought the size was ok until I eventually fitted the shirt this morning!

I think I have a small - will trade for a medium or small grey top :) seeing as my wife annexed mine already

Do you think that doing it solo would make it tougher?

Yes.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I rode the very first one (2010?) sort of solo. Although I knew a lot of people on the race, and met a whole lot of new people along the way, and although I was always surrounded by chirpy cyclists, I found that by day 8 I needed a bit of emotional support.

When you ride in a team, you see the other person's ups and downs. If you ride solo, you only see the other people's ups. Even though I was a much stronger cyclist back then, I found that first joBerg2C harder because of going solo.

Contemplating J2C for 2016, can anyone share the gps files for me to look at?

Distances and vertical ascents should still be on their website - that should give you a fairly good indication of what you're in for.

Search on Strava... you will find them... many times over...

Those first few pics are of Mount Paul! That was one of the best parts of the route - that, and the climb up, and down from Great Wall my China on day 4!  Just those makes it worth doing this again
