Power on IDT vs power on road

Why does it feel like i'm working harder and getting less power on the IDT vs when just riding my bike on the road/trails?

NP puts my ride at just past recovery (ie - low tempo), but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

maybe the resistance is not high enough onto your wheel?

Also get a lower output on the IDT. I do feel that i have worked my ass off but the numbers dont agree

I sometimes get lower numbers because

1.Didn't calibrate IDT before the workout

2.Didn't adjust tension on roller

3.Tyre pressure isn't at recommended 8 bar.

If I do this then my numbers stay consitent ito perceived effort...300 watts feel like 300 watts.

Power on a trainer will always be lower, or so I read, when using a PM other than the trainer itself.

However Hunter suggests that its only because the variables come into play, ie heat, oxygen, etc. because watts is watts.

I also try my utmost best to stay in that specific zone on the trainer, it gets easier...I wish.

Yea heat is a bugger, some IDT allow for calibration anytime during a workout which is great.

Is it the same device measuring for both? If not, then there can be quite a variance.

yeh - quarq crank based power meter on road bike. So its the same device :)

giant magnetic resistance IDT

ahhhh ok, so you have a hub powermeter so indeed its the same powermeter device giving reading that doesn't give the same numbers ito exertion. I thought you comparing and IDT's power reading with your hub one. Mmmmm that throws a spanner in the works.

Jip, I know my numbers on the road are a lot better on the IDT, but I still try to smash the same zones.

IDT isnt fun, but then atleast its a great workout.

Most people have a different FTP for road and IDT.

On the IDT they recon about 15-20% less.

I thought my FTP would be way off between different trainers...turns out they were exactly the same
