How many kg have you dropped since cycling?

16 Kg's dropped from 94 to 78kg's. I am 1,79m and have lost this over the last 3 years. Average about 8 hours a week on the bicycle.

Good to see this thread still going and to hear all the positive stories! I am now hovering at the 77-78kg mark. I don't really want to drop more than this and partly because I can't afford to keep buying new clothes at this rate - my 32 pants are now starting to feel big. My old 36's look like something I could slide some poles through and camp under. The festive season didn't impact me as I had a bit of MTB schooling in KZN hill gradients over the period. I'm actually having to eat more to maintain my weight at this point. Not the worst possible outcome I suppose?

In my humble experience just riding doesn't really make a big impact on weight loss unless you were hardly riding and then suddenly ride lots, even then it doesn't last long.

 

I use Gnarly's diet 'eat less, pooh more' and that has a big influence, clearly riding as well helps that along.

 

Now I may be wrong and others may find that riding helps more to lose weight than diet but that is my experience.

 

Lastly 'you can't train/ride yourself out of a bad diet'

Its all about your heart rate. Like with any exercise. The faster your heart rate the more Cal you burn...there is obviously a optimun heart rate but you are for example not going to burn any fat doing 15kph cycling around the neighbourhood unless you are going many many km... You need to give it gas. Start short distances but give it all you have. In the end 30min workouts every 2nd day worked for me. Your legs are the biggest muscle's on your body hence they use thr most energy when they are used...

I agree....good points. I ride plenty but never drop weight from just riding.

 

If my diet is bad....weight goes up despite riding till I drop!

Without saying too much but the amount of riding and effort I put in I should be a damn Rasmussen by now but no it's not to be  :cursing:

89kg in 2007. Went to 76kg by 2010. Back up to 86kg in 2012 after a year off trying to put the white ball in the hole. On 72kg now after being a couple of years. Going below 76 was tough, had to cut bread and pasta.

I firmly believe that what it was for me was a hearty kickstart to my metabolism which had been just idling for longer than I like to admit. I was 96kg and completely unfit. I have a mtb and just started off doing 20km rides on the road which nearly killed me at the time. I did about 1000km over the first 3-4 months or so and dropped to 85 by Dec 2013. In 2014 I kicked it up slightly and did 4000km over the year and I'm now 78kg. I would aim for 100km a week and on the odd week I missed I would double it to make up most of the time. I didn't change diet at all and the only other exercise I do (which I only got into recently) is hiking. The boozing has dropped off quite radically though I must say, so that could be, and probably is a contributing factor.

Very similar to my experience. Started at about 112kg Sep 2013, lots of 15 - 30km rides in the 1st 6 months. Stepped it up in 2014 with 150 - 200km/week. Never changed my diet but did change eating patterns and choice of food, I suppose I've just contradicted myself. Down to a very comfortable 90kg now.

One thing I've noticed is I'm sleeping better than ever and also have just 2 or 3 whiskies after work instead of half a bottle.

I didnt really ride that much after Argus , would say around 6 rides and my wieght didnt really gone up! If i ride more i think ill loose even more... got to try getting to 75kg!  :devil:

Been hovering around the 80 - 82 kg mark for ages.

 

Changed my lunch diet from sandwiches to fresh fruit and nuts, and dropped 4 kg in two weeks.

 

And don't suffer the 2PM 'fall asleep behind the monitor'  effect any more.

 

Maybe they're right about vegetables and fruit after all.
