I took the liberty to load a HubCup race for Tuesday evening. It should be a fast and furious route. Check it out. If you guys don't like the route I can change it.

Hi, the gadget-freak part of me eventually overruled the realistic wannabe cyclist in me and my SARS refund went to Compete Cyclist. Very good service!

I tried the route from Scotborough to Toti that was used in the race last week to see how it works. On the plus side the setup is very easy, on the down side this proves how unfit/weak I am. But this will serve as motivation.

Talus posted that he averaged 250w and came last, well I only managed 111w and took 1hr 20 or something compared to the 50 min the strong guys needed. I was fiddling with the buttons etc as well so would likely be able to push the numbers, but not much.

I don't want to register for the weekly events as we have seen that larger numbers impact negatively on the response time, so here's hoping that there are other strugglers like myself so we can have a "B" league .... Let me know and we set up something! In the meantime I plan to do the weekly route later and then see if I improve relative to the slowest guy in the "official" race!!

I'm using my MTB and clearly the knobby tires will not last. Did I set it up wrong or is this expected? Else my alternative would be to source another rim, cassette etc that I can then use for training? Obviously also a 29" and I presume it must be the same cassette in terms of number of gears but need not be of the same quality as what I have on the bike itself?

The box also came with 2 other axles. I used the new one as it gripped my bike better than my existing axle. Silver is the trainer and black what I use on the bike. My question is if I can use the new silver axle permanently I.e. also when I use the bike normally?

I was also advised to get the plastic box for the front wheel and it helps to reduce movement. But now it seems as if the bikes position is permanently uphill!? I know I don't cycle well enough for his to make a difference but I'm curious about it. I had the impression on videos I watched that the rear wheels were further of the ground than mine so this assisted with leveling he bike. Maybe because those were road bikes ...

The speed/cadence sensor seems as if it hangs to my bike with a bit of luck so I think I also need a cable-tie to make sure it doesn't fall off (I'm the type of guy that has lost Bryton, numerous pairs of glasses as well as an action cam with various falls and absent-mindless...) to supplement the rubber band.

Thanks again for all the info shared on this and the other threads about the product. Without it I wouldn't have bought it. Now I have clear numbers to see if I improve or not.

Again your advice is appreciated ????????

I can not answer most but please don't do it on knobblies - it will cost a fortune in tyres! Also I think the more the merrier and pushing on live just makes it real. Join us please.

Join the races. After looking at the times some of the guys obtained, I also felt "slightly" intimidated, but, what the hell, someone has to ride at the back to pick up all the water bottles and gel sachets.

This is virtual racing. You can do what you like. No seeding to be lost. No ego to be dented. Only the knowledge that you are busting your ass while others are using the winter/ darkness / safety etc. etc. as an excuse. You WILL become stronger....(sounds of Eye of the Tiger).

Its ok - he will figure it out after 1 ride... going to have a buzzing bum for a while afterwards... :) un;less he rides the tires soft - then its not so bad - 1.2 bar is ok.

Thanks for tip, will drop the pressure until I find a different alternative ????

Joeboy, firstly get yourself a slick or road wheel or something smooth to put on that trainer...its like riding a ferrari with mini wheels.

Don't need to be a 29er wheel,26in with slick will do the job.

Yes you can use the skewer (axle) in the box for everyday riding.

I don't use a climbing block under the frontwheel, old phonebooks works perfectly, put as many in as you want... if you want to ride downhill remove them all :) If you're a perfectionist measure the distance the rear wheel is from the ground and put something under the frontwheel that is the same height.

Regarding the online races I really think the more the merrier even if it means some of us is gonna crash out...

By the way, my wife also want to join the races now... so you'll probably have company at the back... (Although at 50kg and 200w she might be a hand full :) )
