Question on FTP with the iPad app. After using freeride a bit to warm up, I restart freeride and go as much as I can for 20min. Then minus 5%.

But how do I control resistance? I used a heavy gear, kept cadence at around 90 and then used + and - to control target resistance. When struggling came down and then up a bit again etc.

Or how does it work :-/

Pretty much how I do it. Also try the Rubber Glove from Sufferfest.

i would suggest you select setting while in the free ride and change from target Power to target grade and put it on like a 2-3% grade and use your gears to make it easier and harder then go harder and harder and harder till you POP!!!!!!!!!

or just do an online race, these seem to be around 1h at max for most of us. next Wednesdays race will definitely be just over 1h and the climbing will provide some good tests for you.

On Tuesday I took more than an hour and ave was 177W. Doing the 20 min version as described earlier I was on 250 odd translating to around 235W.

Will try the gradient approach next, thanks for the advice !

also take into account ones FTP when testing on an IDT you can expect to be 7-10% lower than if you were to do the test out on the road, this is mostly down to your cooling and being still on the IDT. i.e. on the road you can flex your body and bike to get that extra 5-10% Power.

that said, i have found that the Power beam does read slightly higher than the PowerTap so maybe this will cancel everything out.

but this is only if you have a PM for a road or MTB bike, if you just use the PowerBeam for testing and doing all your Power based workouts then you are fine.

So last night a did one of the routes used in last weeks race, however i see it has not uploaded to my online profile where i can see the data etc. the other test rides i did uploaded automatically, have i done something wrong or is there a way to make it upload?

Just out of interest... my ftp number matched exactly between a wattbike and a powerbeam. Gave me alot of confidence ito its accuracy. Also I have a good feeling of what 200, 230 or 250 W "feels" like and they were the same as on other devices.

Joeboy...maybe even look at a Max Minute Power test to determine training zones...Doesnt require the time and doesnt kill you

Maybe your device lost connectivity.... has happened to me before if my 3G signal drops. Just go into workouts and select upload to the cloud again. that worked for me
