Is speculation defamation, or is it just putting thoughts out there? No definite allegations made - no defamation.

I suggest you go study up on what defines defamation, libel and slander.

"...have to show that the defamation was made with malicious intent and was not just fair comment."

" Public figures voluntarily place themselves in a position that invites close scrutiny"

So we're not allowed to ask questions?

This reminds me of the bad old days when us aunty lancers were personally attacked on thehub because how dare we criticise the god of cycling.

It's a murky subject. Context and provable facts and how they are used in the speculative questions come into play.

So we're not allowed to ask questions?

This is always a tough one - the balance between "our right to know" and the pros right to privacy.

I guess the question is - how would you feel is someone twatted about you asking if you stole money to buy your car/house or bribed your way into your job?

honestly? I'd laugh it off... especially if it was from some random person i've never met before.

methinks the lady doth protest too much

The first time sure, the second sure, the 6th, the 200th? Every time you bought a new car/changed jobs?

Eventually something would snap.

I guess I just don't agree with the "they're pros so we can treat them however we, the public, want" line of thought.

Ask questions all you like (see the recent interview with Froome as a perfect example of that). But inferring in writing on a public forum that a professional sportsman uses drugs and is therefore a cheat, is not a question.

except for lance's admission, theres still very little concrete proof. Theres LOTS of little things that when added up make you realize its bs.

So should we just accept that he's clean, or should we dig a little deeper and ask the uncomfortable questions?

My original point on twitter is still valid, and I really do wonder. Even more so after the legal threats and phone vcalls

doesnt brandon els already have an assualt case against him? A little birdie told me some interesting facts about brandon els/brandon stewart/bridge stewart and another fedgroup rider...

I have also heard some "juicy facts" about that crew....
