GREAT, GREAT, GREAT ride today. They made it easier by cutting 200 vertical meters and a bit of distance out. Also the single track from wp2 to the portage is now along the railway track. Teams of last year cut up to 1h of their time. Wind is PUMPING!

Well, I'm staying in Gordons Bay and helping out in the Tech Zone of W2W and let me ell you, tje wind is pumping here BIG time! Signs of something much more bigger to come! Facts are facts, so prepare well... Remember t pack a few black bags to put all your wet and muddy clothes in. Otherwise, if it rains, you will be safest on a Fatbike.....

Have you ever ridden a fatbike? Fatbikes dont like mud, they float on top of mud and slide all over the place. The only mud they can handle is the thick stuff, anything slightly gloopy or where as in W2W many people have mushed through becomes a nightmare. Only solution is picking your lines carefully or riding next to the trail(which luckily a fatbike often can). Don't think there will be fatbikes as I didn't get an entry.

Weather: here is the official line.

It is the same type of system which caused the havoc last Nov, the systems are fickle and can develop or fizzle, the closer we get toward the time the more predictable and accurate the models become.

For Grabouw: http://www.weather-forecast.com/locations/Grabouw/forecasts/latest

Best prep is a waterproof/ windproof jacket, arm warmers, small lube, spare chain, spare pads.

For the tent village, wellies or crocs (cant believe I just said that), plastic bags, umbrellas - and a sense of humour.

Personally I would still ride in a heartbeat if I got a shot - its never that bad, everything passes and after all you are still riding your bike.

Have a great ride.

The tented village is well prepared with elevated wooden walkways. It will still be muddy around the tents though. Chilly and very windy now.

FANTASTIC day of riding. Pofadder is now a breeze. It was great to be able to ride the fast singletrack without the mud of last year.

Man this is such a cool race.

I chatted to several guys in the beertent (research reasons...). Every single one said they will take the 40+km/h wind rather than the rain of last year.

Tomorrow is 70km into the teeth of it - maybe the opinion will change.

Awesome vibe for last day of W2W adventure. Tip for the ride guys: if you keep on looking up and worrying about the weather for 3 days you'll miss some awesome riding.
