Quick Rock Bottom Bracket

Got myself a Quick Rock BB for my Pyga build after seeing the product at Sani2C registration. After trying to fit it, realised that a lip in the frame made it impossible to fit. Contacted Stephen from Quick Rock which said that I should bring it in that he can have a look (offered to come fetch it in Pta). As I was in the region went to drop of the BB and frame at Quick Rock in Brakpan. Was quite impressed with the setup with some serious engineering machines which they have. Stephen took some measures and said that he will have my BB ready the next week, even offered to personally come and fit it at my home in Pta!

As promised he had a custom built BB delivered to my LBS in Pta at no extra cost.

To put the cherry on top, I got a call from Stephen today to ask if I managed the fit and how the BB's performing? My bike is currently at Dave Marshall who built my wheels and assisting with the build. He informed that the fit is perfect so I still need to see how it will perform. The reason I went for this specific product is that the bearings can be replaced, unlike most other pressfit BB's.

Must congratulate Quick Rock and Stephen on fantastic service so far and good luck with your product and venture!

Got this one middle 2012. Tested it for Stephen and did a little bit more than 10 000km with it. From muddy races to long distances like the Joberg2c. This was the prototype, after all that km's it was still as smooth as a new BB. Now the product has been improved and is cheaper! Well done Stephen! can't wait for my new one!

Nice to see local engineering making an awesome product that's not overly expensive. Not cheap though but I would imagine its great value for money.

Mine is being installed as we speak - ceramic PF30 to 24mm converter BB.

Stephen is one passionate and knowledgeable chap! Great to see REAL south african made stuff rather than the "design local but make in Taiwan" stuff.

Given the products and man behind the products I will support Quickrock 100% - there is the small matter of actually using the BB of course but after seeing the factory and the product I have few doubts. Will feedback later...

Hi

I have had one on since before Sani. Feels amazing. Very smooth, and rolls fantastically. Had a mate try my bike with it on compared to his Spez S-Works and he went on got one the next week. he couldn't believe the difference.

So not just in the mind :-)

Not very happy with their aftersales service. Empty promises and lies when it comes to commitments made by them.

a little vague your comment, some more info would go along way before you get ripped apart for looking like someone just out there to start a fight

Hairy, I'm not out for a fight and I don't need to go into the details, however, the summary is as follows. Product fails twice. First time quick replacement, second time a lot of promises. Replacement "apparently" on its way since last week with a reputable courier company. Courier, however, has no records thereof and since yesterday my calls are not returned by Quickrock. Luckily I have all the records. So.......

now that is a far more informative comment

I would like to report back on my postings of yesterday. I have received both a phone call and my parts from Quickrock. An apology, together with an explanation was forwarded to me and I accept it as such. Thank you Stephen.

Would this be an upgrade to a BB that comes standard with a MTB Fairly new tot cycling but I keep hearing creaky noises..Had the bike serviced and now the noise is back..Happens when i push hard on pedal strokes. No movement @ BB..Might be the chain..

I'll take a guess and say you have a BB30 system. The creak is probably between BB and frame rather than BB.

Either that or pull the cranks off, give everything that rotates on something a light film of grease and put it back.

BB - FSA MegaExo BB

Crank set- FSA MegaExo 42/32/24. I hope it's not the frame..The bike is 5 months old.

Or is that the same as a BB30 system?

Nah - yours is a "screw into the frame" system.

Creaks are tough to ID over the net. Best idea is to isolate it. For example if the creak disappears when you stand up then the creak is probably saddle or saddle pillar.

Try and "listen" to where the creak comes from.

If it sounds like BB - the best idea is to remove your BB - apply a THIN film of grease to the BB thread and pop it back in.

Luckily the weekend is around the corner so I'll have some time to figure it out. I know the creaks happen when I stand and pedal or while climbing. Definitely coming from the BB/crank area.. Went through a few reviews about the FSA MegaExo BB...Doesn't seam like the best there is..Lots of people say it allows mud and water in causing the bearings to fail etc..
