I'm busy on my build planning for my new ASR-C... actually thinking of going Guides just to see for myself...  never know until you try them...

do it. Even those XX's you hated worked brilliantly for me. They just needed a bit of fettling, and hey presto. They WORKED.

According to all the reviews, the redesign has worked wonders, and they should have continued developing along those lines instead of using a completely new piston & reservoir assembly.

But - mine have performed flawlessly.

I've just bought a set of Guide RS's for 2k5. Chain reaction. KILLER price.

How much extra performance does the "S" part give you over the straight "R"?

I was getting the Guides and Codes mixed up in previous post

Apparently quite a bit better ito lever feel. Better modulation thanks to a special cam - i think the R is a straight piston type arrangement which doens't have the same ability to be modulated, as well as the RS & RSC does.

Essentially modulates, but without the squidginess.

Best value on earth. I have almost 10 000km on mine and they are fit-and-forget, super-powerful with 180mm rotos and have loads of modulation.

Shimano are simply the best value and easiest to live with.

Flippin heck, that is a good price!

Still, I'd prefer 4 potters. I'm a big kid, and I like the extra power. If I weren't going for the Guides, these would be a seriaaaas consideration.

ITO pricepoint, as I said earlier, there's just nothing that can touch them at the moment.

I see my old Merida has Hayes 'stroker ryde" brakes, and I cannot seem to find brake pads for it online.

Does any one know who would stock it in Gauteng or online?

Decided I'd join the RS club. I think (hope) most of the Avid/SRAM hate is just a lingering ghost and that the reviews of the new generation of brakes being excellent for the trail are spot on.

I'll let you know after my first ride with them - hopefully this weekend

Are you getting the new style rotors too? I'm keeping HS-1 on front, but replacing my crappy rear rotor with the centreline.

Nope. I have a 203mm alligator pizza rotor on the front and a 180mm xx floating rotor on the rear. If I want to change later I will but for now that's good enough for me.

Fitting them this pm and then riding in tokai this evening to test them out. Can't wait!
