l4y3rcake Posted July 14, 2014 Share Hi all. Just wanted to find out where the best place is to get my Recon serviced? I would like to take it to someone that specialises in suspension because i might have blown a seal on sunday during a race(pure speculation as I'm no expert) I noticed after the first rocky descent that my fork was almost completely sagged. There was only about 25 mm of stanchion visible when i was on the bike and it was fully extended when i was off of it. I didn't notice any damage or oil. Any advice on where to take it, or easy checks that i can do to know the extent of the damage, will be highly appreciated.

Skinnyone Posted July 14, 2014 Share An air seal has gone, hopefully it hasn't damaged the inside of the stanchion or else its a new CSU, Crown Steerer Unit...An air seal gone doesn't mean that it will leak oil, typically when the dust wipers (normally refered to as the seals) have worn out and gotten too full of dust then oil might weep out...but then a recently serviced fork will do the same,
NotSoBigBen Posted July 14, 2014 Share Long shot BUT is your rebound set properly? Many years ago I had a very similar problem with a Recon and it was because my rebound was set on full slow .... the fork never 'recovers' enough for the travel to return. Not sure if I'm making sense but anyway it is worth looking at, I did once relate this story and how our very own sherrif berated me (quite correctly) for not understanding how to set up my fork and to RTFM Many may say but why suddenly, well in my case I believe that either while washing or 'shoehorning' the bike into the car I had at the time I accidently somehow bumped/manhandled it to full slow .... Anyway just a thought and worth a look? Dirkitech

Last week I tried to set up the rebound on my fork and I might have"accidentally" set it to full tilt thinking I had set it to its quickest rebound setting.    Thanks Ben I'll check it out. No worries, hope it's that! At least unlike me you didn't go to the LBS that sold it to you and DEMAND they sort out my fork only to find the problem was between the seat and the front wheel ..... manbearpig Posted July 14, 2014 Share You blow a seal or is it just frost on you mustache?I'm new to mountain biking and it's crazy jargon. Did he really perform fellatio on an aquatic mammal or did something much worse happen during his race? ( its a little more complicated that that i know) drop me a pm if you need some help on the setup.
Nivec Posted June 27, 2020 Share Old thread but could not find anything recent. Where is a good place for a RS Fork service in Fourways area? The lockout does not function very well anymore, still get about 25% movement with it locked. I have had it in before, but repair only lasted a couple of weeks. Not sure what they did, I was just happy it was working at the time.
